Well I've never heard a bunch called a hand before. Loving your enthusiasm for these exotic 'fingers'.

A banana is a type of berry. It is the fruit of an herbaceous plant, often incorrectly referred to as a tree.
The narrow, top part of each fruit is referred to as its neck.
When it starts to go black there before anywhere else, it has neck rot.
When it is stored too cold and goes grey and stripy, it has 'chill'.

Paraquat has been used extensively as a weedkiller in banana plantations in Central and South America and Caribbean Islands. Because they often have quite shit lives, plantation workers have been known to commit suicide by drinking it.
