  • Like the top one, colours are really good too.

    How you finding the x100?

  • I think it's the best camera I have ever used/owned

  • Tidy work lately. That bumblebee is ace. And Philxthomas' stuff makes me want to go back out for more lunch in the sun.

  • I ordered the Ricoh GR as I have not been carrying my Nikon with me. Here's hoping I will like it.

Has this arrived yet? Really considering one of these as my one-and-only-take-anywhere digi. Seems like a really capable bit of camera!

  • If you like the 28mm lens, you'll love the camera. It's too wide for my personal preference, but had it been 35mm instead I'd never sell it.

  • ^ I had the GRD II and got on with the focal length just fine. It was just a bit too slow to operate if you know what I mean. Bit clunky to navigate. I should probably find a place that stocks them so I can have a fiddle about.

  • Then you'll love the GRD3, it's much quicker to operate. Not SLR quick, but perfectly fine.

  • The plethora of buttons and custom functions make the Ricohs a breeze to operate if you familiarise yourself through daily use. I loved my GRD3. Qhen I lost it I bought another straight away – I've never done that before, normally I see loss of or damage to a camera as an opportunity for change.

Ultimately I grew curious of other fields of view (I've begun to hone in). I considered a 35mm lens pretty narrow after becoming accustomed to the 28 on the Ricoh; I have been on 50mm for the last few weeks, I'm enjoying it. I wonder when it'll stop.

If you're coming to the Ricoh from 50mm or thereabouts I think it'll take a while to come around to the 28mm unless you have a specific subject in mind like architecture/landscape.

    TLDR - good camera

  • Genuinely really liked my GRD II but I think I was a bit too used to my little film point and shoots in terms of speed. Plus the GRD IV was on the way in and my mind was like "SELL SELL SELL" with the anticipation of picking up a III or IV later on before I lost out financially. Now the GR's out with a bigger sensor and I'm back to thinking about decent digital compacts. The III and IV are cheaper and they've got quicker lenses... GR has a bigger sensor, decent quality at higher ISOs too apparently... Hmmmm! Essentially the stable is lacking in the digital department and there's a gap at the 28mm mark too. 35, 40 and 45 are covered. Something a bit wider would be noice indeed.

  • Pics from my time with a 28mm GRD3 (some may be reposts):

  • ^ Those are great!

  • Sick!

  • Enjoying those immensely, snoops. Colours are fantastic in the bottom three. Were they straight out of the camera? They have a slide quality to them.

  • No, I always process raw files. Thanks for the comments.

  • I'm considering taking only the 28mm unit with me (GXR) while on holiday, but I'm still in love with what the 50mm does for faces in comparison.

  • In reference to the above discussion on the new GR.

  • posting more pics because this thread is my only captive audience

  • Those are lovely, the patterns and repetitions are very satisfying.

  • Number four raises lots of questions: I like it.

  • Is there such a thing as a cheap*, ultra wide nikon fit lens?
*£200ish, happy to go 2nd hand.

Got a D7000, so its a crop sensor.

  • Need AF? Otherwise converter and something old?

Have not received it yet. The store did not have it, so I have to wait. Should take two weeks or so.

And my most used lenses are Sigma's 30mm and Tokina's 11-16mm. Ricoh's lens should be just fine.

  • Nice. Top triangle bit of sky bugs me a bit, or maybe just making it more interesting?

  • Cheers! I left that little bit in there on purpose in the end - its a bit jarring but it works.

Just went for a ride around stratford - fuck me its a bit cyclist unfriendly round there; I kept getting stopped by blokes in hard hats saying I couldn't cycle down certain roads and they couldn't give me any reasons other than the cycle lanes weren't ready yet. So what are you supposed to do? buy a car just to visit some shithole?
