Is there any difference between Nikon and Canon at the budget end of DSLRs? I'm looking at replacing my old Sony A200 and looking to move to one of the big two for the availability of lens.

Brilliant stuff. I think within a few years shooting with camera phones will be the norm.
I don't understand the emphasis on the phone part of cameraphone in many of these online discussions. Often when cameraphone photography is discussed it is with regard to it being democratic: with cameras attached to phones more people are photographing, etc etc.
In this case, if someone is a professional photographer (defined as so by being a part of an agency such as Magnum) what is the significance of the phone? Are we simply impressed by the photographs achieved by a small sensor and limited manual controls? In which case, with sensor size increasing in compacts (APSC in Ricoh GR) should reverse the trend for cameraphone photography.
Or is the professional cameraphone discussion really hinting that a new type of documentarian is emerging: the undercover-vigilante(?). Has the size of professional cameras, most notably in the DSLR era, limited their opportunities for true reportage?
I'm quite interested in why this is a topic of discussion.

+1
I think the most interesting part is that a lot of people now have a good camera at hand all the time, so there's no excuse for not taking photos. Hopefully this will bring both interesting perspectives such as Wiganwills link, and also new photographers who otherwise wouldn't have turned to photography.
Also the ubiquity of it. Not that I know much about war, but maybe that magnum photographer is seen more as a normal guy with his phone, rather than a docu photographer.
I also like the fact that you now can take great photos with your phone. If you got a good eye for it, you can create stunning stuff - http://instagram.com/johanrenck for example. A few years ago there weren't even any point trying.

Well, for one thing, the pictures are square. That's not such a minor change.
He explains some of his reasons here:
http://lightbox.time.com/2012/08/16/an-iphone-in-congo-photos-by-michael-christopher-brown/#1He's far from the only one using a cameraphone and the idea that you go unobserved is interesting in that that has often been the reason people have used a Leica - small, unobtrusive, unthreatening. A camera phone is even better for that since you blend in all the more.
There is a great HBO documentary about his work in LibyaWitness Part02 Libya WS XviD err0001 - YouTube
and he's not just using an i-phone.

^ who are you? I was interviewed and denied job there :P
Are you in camden or at the showroom?
There was some serious bike porn in camden staff bike storage, personal fav was the 853 single speed MTB. -

Sorry to hear about that. I'm the comms guy. I work at both locations. The owner of that 853 MTB does not mess around when he builds a bike! I contribute to the bike porn in my own way, mine would be the big, green Surly Ogre in ute mode.

That explains it. The shelving system is on my list for when we get a proper house.

Just ordered an EOS M for a more portable solution. They are ridiculously cheap at the moment in the US ($350 with the 18-55 lens) as I believe it's about to be replaced.

How long is it before someone tries a bigger sensor in a phone camera.
