  • When/if I ever get back on a bike, I wouldn't dream of mounting brakes. To me riding fixed is all about simplicity at its finest; fixed gear and brakeless will always go hand in hand.

  • ^ My hero.

    #swoon

  • The fact that you started that sentence with 'if I ever get back on a bike' speaks volumes about the use of brakes
Heal up though Lynchman, glad to have you back

Says the man who need his ass reconstructed.

  • ^^ amazing

I appreciate what you're saying, but I think it's gonna take time and confidence building. Only been riding a couple of months and I still don't know London that well yet.

    King of the fixieskidders

This bullshit will never die. Which is odd, because people who believe it are putting themselves in regular mortal peril.

Rim brakes are hardly cold fusion reactors or computer chips, are they? A couple of bits of alloy and rubber don't compromise the simple beauty of a bicycle, do they?

  • "King of the fixieskidders."

Don't skid much really... More like can't stop, won't stop :)

  • But in all seriousness, if breaking himself in the worst possible way doesn't dissuade him, arguing online surely won't.

  • Brakless rulz etc etc

    This bullshit will never die.

The brakeless debate, or Lynchman himself?

Note "To me...", me being the key word. I'm not lecturing, merely stating my opinion.

And yes, to me brakes do compromise or sometimes even ruin the simple beauty of a fixed gear bike.

  • It all depends how you ride the god damn thing. No matter how many brakes you have if you ride like a cnut you're gonna run into trouble.

  • Or off the side of a bridge

  • ^Efficiency, cleaning your bike and yourself at once. (Assuming there's a river under said bridge)

  • Just a lorry and then a car if I remember correctly

  • Surprised people took Lynchman's bait.

  • One could say the same about you... ;)

  • Lynchman, I would be genuinely interested to hear the story of what the hell happened with the accident etc :s

I've only caught bits and bobs about it around the forum, it certainly sounds worthy of a thread.

If you'd rather leave it to mystery (or mind my own business!) That's cool :)

  • Not thread worthy... But I'll fill you in, just not tonight.

  • Cheers fella :)

  • First proper ride clipless, went to stop at a set of lights, unclipped my right foot a little too early so kept it on the pedal. Managed to clip myself in again without realising. Fell into a pole, luckily there was no traffic around. I had the tension set fairly high and I found it hard enough to clip in normally so I was shocked when my foot wouldn't move

  • Thou must learn how to track stand, thus never unclip unwillingly... Check the good book, I'm sure it's in there somewhere.

  • But I'll fill you in, just not tonight.

    Saucy.

  • From tyre just blew out on Oxford street as I was going from Wardour Street to Newman Street. Heard a really loud hiss/bang that sounded like glass smashing. Looked around as if to say "wtf?" and then looked at my tyre. Gutted. Could've been worse. Just glad it happened outside work and not on a roundabout or something.

Anyone know of any decent bike shops in Central?
