Hi Ian;
I'm on the IOW, but unfortunately, or fortunately! recovering from a cardiac arrest back in Oct. (Fabrice Muamba type thing, fit as, no symptoms, just bang..) I'm slowly doing bits on the turbo, but as soon as is good, will be looking for local fixed rides. I used to work in Pompey and used to race the buses down Queen St and get spat at by bus drivers! -

Sorry to hear that but glad to hear you're recovering! Definitely let me know when you're good to go though.
We usually ride about 30 miles every Tuesday / Wednesday, depending on the weather. We also do rides most weekends, sometimes to places like Chichester, Bournemouth, Brighton, Salisbury and next weekend there are people riding to Bristol!
Would be good to get some more fixie riders involved! There were 6 of us last night.

Hey.
I ride fixed in Bournemouth, I guess you guys just ride from Pompey though?
We ride the new forest, just rode 27 miles to swan gage today, some killer hills! -

We do ride in and around Pompey but always up for a road trip. We would obviously have to ride there first though. Maybe we could do a Bournemouth trip soon.

4 of us rode fixed from Portsmouth to Bristol on Saturday - http://www.strava.com/activities/63639937
Stops in Southampton, Salisbury and Bradford on Avon. Was really good. Looking for a new challenge soon! Would be good to get some more fixed riders involved too.

Live in Portsmouth last year and was constantly wishing I had a fixie. I think Pompey's where I fell in love with them! I'm planning on coming down to visit some friends that are still down there this summer. Mind if I tag along for a ride one day?
Edit: just checked out the strava. Nice!

It is a lovely place to ride fixed, especially as most of Portsmouth is flat and there is the long stretch of seafront.
Sure, just let me know when you're heading down.

Unfortunately, I've moved to Bristol now but yes, there are still a lot of fixed rides in Portsmouth.
Check out Southsea Cycle Club https://www.facebook.com/groups/133559690055813/ to get in contact with people nearer the time.
Hope that helps.

Portsmouth is dead.

I was in Portsmouth yesterday, I can confirm rumors of its demise are greatly exaggerated.

The uni cycling club which I'm apart of and Portsmouth North End cycle club aren't dead.
Not too big of fixed seen here though, I think there is a group from bike-u-like on albert road that do fixed rides regularly.
Thought I would start a thread for Fixed Gear in Portsmouth to see if there would be any point in having a Sub-Forum in UKFGSS.
I'm quite late to join the party with Fixed Gear bikes but I recently sold my mountain bike and bought a fixie and now I love it.
There are quite a few weekly fixed gear group rides from Portsmouth that go to places like West Ashling and The Red Lion in Chalton, with some bigger rides once or twice a month. Any fixed gear riders are always welcome!
Also, for those that haven't seen it yet, there is a Southsea Cycle Club group on Facebook and there is a great game of Bike Tag going on - https://www.facebook.com/groups/133559690055813/
