I hope the widow in question did not see your first post!.....Like the journalist who spoke to Mrs Lincoln directly after her husband had been shot in the Ford Theatre, Washington DC.....'Apart from that Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?'

Perhaps this is a fitting tribute to the battle of Gettyburg in the American Civil War [150th anniversary today]....because ultimately that battle was due to a search for shoes and a lot of people died over the first three days of July in 1863.......there a bit of history.....that truly was dead mans' shoes!

To be fair. John is a nice guy. I bought a bike from him recently. He gave me a beer and chatted about his bike collection. That said, definitely not the most appropriate or sensitive of thread titles (with or without irony).

Private Smith was on parade and was told by the Company Sergeant Major without any warning that his mother had died.....he collapsed and was stretchered off the parade ground.....the commanding officer warned the CSM that he needed to be more sensitive in such circumstances....be more .....tactful.....6 months later....again on Private Smith is on parade (he had recovered from his mother's death).....the CO Told the CSM that Smith's father had died and he needed to tell Smith in a kind and supportive way.......So the CSM said 'all those with a father one step forward'.........'SMITH........WHERE ARE YOU GOING!'
