**Ongoing (lack of) space and cash issues at Retro Towers force further redundancies to be made - and the end of my dalliance with plastic, for now. Both bikes are available complete as shown OR frame, fork, headset and listed accessories only. If split, groupset and wheels not available separately, to save on enquiries. Framesets can be shipped worldwide at cost, complete bikes collection only SE1/Waterloo. Viewing welcome.
A word on sizing - Colnago have an odd system for frames other than steel, the official frame size is the seat tube centre to top where 'top' is the UNDERSIDE of the seat clamp. On carbon frames there is an obvious step at this point. This can lead to confusion when the official Colnago size is quoted. Colnago would recommend using their size equated to tradional frame sizing, so if you ride a 56cm steel frame then go for a 56cm Colnago frame even though the c2c dimensions appear too small. This is to keep your weight over the wheels for best handling (apparently). Worked for me anyway. 'Actual' sizes quoted are best efforts to measure backed up by relevant Colnago geo charts. Both take Italian thread BB, braze-on front mech. C40/C50 also take unusual 28mm sized seat posts, but USE make very precise shims down to 27.2 which work very well if you want a wider choice of post. I have other saddles available and possibly pedals depending on what you use.
First up, a first generation C40, I love these for their classic looks, close to being a carbon Master with the thinner profiled tubes. All day long comfort which is why they cleaned up at Paris-Roubaix for years and were the bike the pros chose to keep at the end of the season. Originally would have had a steel fork but has been upgraded to a Colnago Flash carbon fork (alloy steerer). Colour scheme is actually a C50 one (called PR01) as it has been factory resprayed at some point.
Size is Colnago 56cm which equates to 54cm seat post and 54.6 top tube centre to centre.
Groupset is nearly new latest Athena 11s but with earlier (NOS) UltraShift Ergos with the wider shifting range and more positive ratchets.
Cranks are 172.5mm carbon compact 50/34 PowerTorque.
Cassette 12-27 Chorus and Chorus chain.
Bars are Deda 215, stem Deda Newton, headset Chris King 1"
Seatpost Colnago's own carbon 28mm (made by Selcof), saddle San Marco Aspide.
