Back to plastic. I bought this in the end.
It's taking a little while to get used to the way it leaps forward from a standing start like a thoroughbred racehorse. Anyway, after one (1) short ride in the pissing rain I'm happy with it so far.
Wow gorgeous. Happy cycling xxx

Rapha ride complete in an hour then?
Hah, no. I will be doing the Wapha wide fixed, as ever!
I ought to think about moving house now, though, I'm now up to five bikes all kept indoors in a tiny studio flat and they deserve better, tbh. God knows why they stick with me.

Has this new plastic superbike been ridden yet?
-
• #330
Of course it has, it says that 4 posts above yours, you blind twat. Or is this you demonstrating that you don't read anything in the ladies' forum?

• #331
Ha, not the taking it home ride.. I mean a going out weekend jaunt type thing :-)

Nopelol. Le Tour is on the telly, and the bike wants to watch it, so we are sitting down together in front of it now. It is a bonding exercise.

I hope the other bikes are ok with this special treatment. Squabbling kids can take a while to settle.

x post from welcome thread;
alright, on the last track day at HH velodrome we had NO women racing which is a shame! We are organizing another one on 24th august. We want to make this fun for all event! So get involved. Its still taking shape so there is no race program yet i'll sort this soon but it'd be good if you can add yourself to the list.
Spread the word, we are also looking for sponsors for prizes.

I'm new here, although some of you may have met me elsewhere.
Beast, a Globe Vienna 2.
And Baby, a basic Spesh Dolce which is getting completely hammered by the mileage I'm doing.
Been looking for another road bike, something of a higher spec as bits of Baby keep breaking.
Also craving something a bit retro, but can't think of when I would have time to ride it.

I love that pub bike. May have to attempt to recreate...
I've still got the 'nag, but with a swanky new saddle.
And the new addition is this jolly orange knackered beater. It's ever so fun.

I'm getting the itch to drop some pounds on a modern road bike.
I like the look of the Boardman Compfi, even though the name is hideous.http://www.boardmanbikes.com/fi/fi_road_comp.html
I think more of entry level, but not the lowest level. I don't know if I'm going to like it, although I don't know why I wouldn't.
Has anyone tried one of the Boardmans? What are they like to ride?Any other suggestions?
(Not Trek, I know it sounds ridiculous but I had such a disaster with a Trek a while ago that I just can't think of them without getting a bit angry and flustered)I am, naturally, meant to be getting rid of larger items rather than accumulating them, but I'll worry about that when I move. The chap may just have to get used to tripping over bikes on the stairs, or sharing a bed with one when we run out of space.

^ps I really like your Ciocc JWestland.
Was that frame bought off the forum? -

^ That's the spirit :)
Thanks RE Ciocc, got it from forum indeed. Need to built him/her/it some clincher rims for bad weather, glassbin Belfast + rain == flat...
No experience with Boardman alas. But they often get favorable reviews. Ribble and Dolan are other "non fancy" brands that do you a good value for money.

For those who wish to buy a new bike, Chain Reaction have a 2012 BeOne 105 equipped bicycle for around £500.
It's 45cm with a 54cm top tube for those who's of average height, and a triple (a full 105 equipped rather than a mix of aftermarket component).

Carbon fork too, great price!

Those look like steel rims, don't they?
What kind of brake pads do you use on them?I am asking as I'd like to get my missus a light steel frame, but many come with steel rims. I own one (a 1964 Carlton Continental), but in the wet those rims make the brakes disappear altogether.
And I don't want to put her (or me) at risk. Also I'm trying to push her away from step-thru frames.
Thanks!

Salmon kool stops make the best of steel rims
But if you dont care about authenticity, changing to alloy wheels is easy and can be done cheaply, and you get less weight as well as better braking
Ooooooooooooooohhhhhh. Ver noyce.
Rapha ride complete in an hour then?
