Anti-Puncture Tyres At-a-glance

  • I rode a conti sprinter to Brighton without sealant, no punctures even over the 500 or so of mud/rocks it did however develop two small splits.

After 3 months these still haven't punctured.

  • Conti has another good point for a lot of their tires: Made in Germany, so good labour laws, environmental laws and people getting a good wage.

Worth paying a few £ more imho.

  • Especially when my 23c Conti Super Sport Plus tyres were £11 each.

They are proper anti puncture tyres with a similar setup to Marathon plus but a bit lighter (450g for 23c), roll nicer with better grip due to slicker tread.
Worth trying at the price they are at Chainreaction if puncture resistance is highest priority.

  • Thinking of getting some conti Grand Prix 4's, has anyone got anything bad to say about them? Or is there anything better out there. They're going to be used for commuting mainly, but a few mid distance rides, so puncture protection probably takes priority over speed.

They're not all made in Germany.

Schwalbe Durano or for uber protection Durano Plus

  • Is this true, I've heard you have a disliking to continental...

  • conti ultra race are so sick for skiding

  • Do they not wear through really quickly?

In all honesty, I really fucking like them, despite wanting not to. I usually ride Continental or Schwalbe as that's what I can get through work. The 4 seasons went on my bike right at the end of last summer, and they saw a couple of century's with all the riding inbetween. They were moved from my fixed bike to my road bike and did many more miles at higher speeds and were faultless, even leaning into corners in the wet and braking at high speeds without skidding. They don't roll quite as nice as the gp4000's, but it takes a flat, straight, part of road that you know well to notice. In a year of riding on different bikes and the occasional skid the same pair of tyres look to be only half worn and have only been taken off my road bike because I'm giving Ultremo's another chance.

Tldr:: awesome tyres. Not quite as quick rolling as proper race tyres or Ultremo's, but not far behind, but have miles more longevity and puncture protection. After thousands of miles on the Continental 4 seasons they still have grip in the wet like race tyres do in the dry and don't cut up at all.Commuting in London can be brutal on tyres with all the broken glass. If you're not after maximum speed, but longevity, grip, predictability and value for money, I recommend he Continental 4 Seasons whole heartedly.

    ultra race are old gatorskins

  • Gatorskins are old hats.

  • if old hats are good for skidding on for 3 - 4 weeks before needing replacing.

  • Ultra sport are shit, and weak. I had a brand new one on the front and got a double side wall cut the other day, waste of money. Ultra sport - £15? Buy a hardshell for £30...

I've beed running a soma everwear 5mm on the back, skids really nice in the dry, sort of in between a rando and a hardshell... Wearing very fast though, and absolutely terrifying trying to stop in the wet.

  • Ultra sport are basically standard gatorskins. Good, do their job, but not particularly hardy. I really want to try the Panaracer Ribmo but won't really know until I get my hands on one.

  • gatorksin > ultrasport

  • theyre the fucking same

  • oh no they're not

  • Rubino Pro. Job done.

  • Is this true, I've heard you have a disliking to continental...

Yes, I dislike them. I find it better to hate the tyres rather than the game.

  • Roboto how long to Re-fuse last for skidding? Remember you praising them a while back

  • I usually get at least two to three months out of the maxxis depending on how luck you are at spreading out the skid patches. My current rear went on at the end of April and is still going strong, even with my radical skidding stylez.

I've been running a Rubino Pro on the track bike for a month and it is fast rolling and puncture resistant. Shit for skids though.

  • Refuse are the best

  • Didn't want to start a new tyre three just for a question, but does anywhere know where I can get Rivendell Rol-y Pol-y's in the UK? TFG stock Rivendell but not roly polys.

I basically want a fast rolling 28c gumwall.

  • I'll have a quick search but failing that would resist nomad 28c do?
