I bought a pair last year, have ridden a lot more miles than that on predominantly very bad surfaces and they are golden. If I was going to build another workhorse wheelset would I get them again? I don't need to, they just keep going. I think you've been unlucky as I bought them after hearing great first hand feedback and preferred to support a UK manuf. Contact Goldtec and see what they say.
If you can't get a 46mm c/line I've used spacers between sprocket and shoulder to space sprockets outboard a little. 44.5mm to 46mm should be possible. If you really don't care about saving money on hub and are looking at the price uptick anyway then Royce have a new high flange double fixed that has a wider c/line .. I think around 44.5 or 45mm, will check it if you need.
