That's how the system works.
You've given 13 nergs, none of which were related to classifieds but decrement other people's rep, and then when it happens to you, you protest.
Rep is based on a calculation, one so complex I can't work it out myself. But roughly your score is calculated by the rep you've received and given, and the rep others have given or taken from you, and this is multiplied by the general score of the other people.
You think that it's just my nerging you that has caused this, but you're wrong. My score starts higher than others, but some other people have earned so much score of their own that they now affect your score greatly too.
And every night, the scores of everyone are re-calculated.
Any manual reset would be wiped out the next night.
So instead, to adjust the score that is calculated I'd have to edit and manually remove from the audit trail various bits of neg rep until such a time that it managed to massage your score back to a positive number.
The facts:
edscoble, you've nerged 13 times, and you yourself have received 97 nergs.
As far as I can tell, none of these relate to classifieds (the whole point of the rep system).
I also see that several of the people that have nerged you have a higher rep score than I do. I weight heavily, but others have earned much higher scores over time.
So what I'd need to do is to subjectively go through and delete rep left by a whole slew of people, to give you a score you desire.
That's not going to happen as then I'll have to start doing that for lots of people who dislike their score.
People get the site they want, and you've participated in giving nergs and trolling and you've been scored as such by your peers.
You'd like to now have that slate wiped clean, but therein is the better question... what's the point of having the system at all if it doesn't actually serve any benefit to the one area that it might be helpful: reputation management with regards to classifieds. And I'm not against the users of the site using the tools however they see fit, I find it interesting to watch new uses and needs appear from the evolution of how people interact. And it seems that people want the site to have just a general semi-private feedback and rep system and not one related to classifieds.
If it was purely my rep that had resulted in your neg score I'd oblige as I have in the past. But I never feel I have the right to start nuking the content of other people.
Perhaps you should make the kind of posts that earn positive rep and avoid the kind of posts that get you nerged?
