You've gone on and on and on about how none of us need any more performance than a Specialized Allez can give - so we are to a man using bikes way beyond what you judge to be our "level" as cyclists.
Yes, there is an increased cost for buying the best components- but that's a bit like pointing out that the sky is blue.
You've set out your stall with "Weight is a consideration for me, just a very minor one" just be honest about it- and stop applying your own views to the rest of the world.
What you are doing is the equivalent of saying "Vegemite is the best spread"- it's an opinion, not fact.
In your opinion weight is a low priority to deal with on a bike- and that's fine, you compete in high power short distance high pain-threshold hill climbs and long distance TT's, neither of which require a light bike.
In my opinion I like how a light bike rides, so I have one.
Neither of these opinions invalidate the other.
What utter tosh.
Where have I mentioned an Allez? Where have I said people shouldn't have a machine that 'performs'. You are desperately clutching at straws here because you're taking it personally.
Where did I limit myself to performance, I'm talking about weight reduction, I made no statement about not trying to gain performance advantages through better materials and better designs that results in a stiffer, more aero, or more durable product with less rolling resistance or whatever. I have specifically shit-canned people paying over the odds for things like a 30g reduction in the weight of their seatposts when a perfectly functional and more durable alternative can be purchased for a quarter of the price.
Stop applying my views to the rest of the world? What are you talking about? It's a discussion forum. It's all about people's views. If you don't like mine, weight weenies is right over there and I'm not on it >>>>>
That's great, you have a light bike, I'm so happy for you. It must be really nice carrying it up stairs and save you loads of time on your commute? Good luck in the Tour.
