135mm rear OLD for an Alfine hub that I have waiting for it.
S&S Couplers
Internal brake routing (and will have aero bars)
Cyclocross levers on the top tubeLooking forward to seeing this progress. Does it have a disc caliper mount for the Alfine or is it rim-brake only?

Just rim brakes - got the Dia Compe 610 centerpulls

Bit of an update...
Received and unpacked...
And with first assembly parts on. Had the LBS do the HS and BB...It's not 'singing' to me yet, though hopefully as it takes shape it'll start to give me an idea on finishes etc.
The wrap and tape will be brooks honey, though still stuck on mudguards (black - probably nicer though can't find any black steel ones or good ol' chrome Berthoud or Velo Orange). Also the chainring bolts were originally red (and just wanted try out the gold ones) though not sure if they look too BMX...

Your bikestand should clamp your seatube, or even better your seatpost. Top tubes are a bit delicate for the clamps.

Looks good. Will be following this to garner ideas for a future buld I am planning.
You might want to take a look at the portland design works full metal fenders - come anodised dark grey. I am very pleased with mine.

Right, finally been patient enough to pause and ask for advice on this bit...
Does the below look shit, and is it going to be a nightmare to keep still....
Here is a Gilles Berthoud Frame bag: It's supposed to look like this:
http://i.ebayimg.com/t/NEW-GILLES-BERTHOUD-INSIDE-FRAME-BAG-GB1105-BLACK-KLICKFIX-MADE-IN-FRANCE-/00/s/NDAwWDQwMA==/$(KGrHqFHJDkE63Zc+rPfBO6SmJy,3Q~~60_35.JPG
(I also have the saddle and handlebar bag to match, and will one day get the panniers if I want to extend it's use further than the planned uber-posh commuter / Paris Roubaix steed)However, I purchased it with it in mind that it would sit in the front of my frame, upside down. Like so:
http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/u377/danwaltonphotos/2013-02-11222245_zpsed9631e8.jpgThe reason? 1) The bike is super rear-heavy with a Shimano hub gear, and 2) It's specifically for (almost uniquely, though will probably stick tools in it too) magicshine batteries of which I have 2 (lights) on the front and one in the rear (ooo er).
This was always my plan, though I was worried about the method of attachement.
Oddly my problem is now the other way around - I'm quite confident the spare matching GB straps I have can be bolted to the (strong) leather panel in the bag and then round the top tube and downtube, and with the bottom one offset to the angle of the downtube, it will be snug and secure.
However, it shouts "clearly wasn't made for this purpose" and one rarely over estimates the rattle these things can bring. Oh,a nd it covers the last 2 letters of the 'Jackson'. A moot point but still...
It's quite a bit of grief to send it back to France, so not sure if I should persevere with it as planned?

This looks great already... is it the Vulcan frame? But with less fancy lugs?
-
• #9
as for the frame bag, your forward mount will give more difficult acces to the zipper, right?
even though it's just for batteries it is nice to be able to get to them without having to remove/twist/faff around with the bag.Personally I'm all for using everything in a way they were not intended though.

Have you got any close up photos of the lugs? Hope you got them lined!
On a more serious note what are you going to do for controlling the alfine hub? Bar end shifter, versa vrs or the trigger shifter?
-
• #11
Cheers guys...It's actually the Audax End-To-End model, though with curvy rear seat stays (of the Vulcan) and (non standard) Arrowhead lugs - the latter was a bit of an extravagance (I didn't guess anyone would notice them), though dead chuffed how it worked out (and yes, they're lined in gold). Will sort out some photo's next time I have the (shite) phone camera out!
The alfine's controlled with a Jtek bar end shifter (you can see it just in the foreground to the right)

This build really excites me man, I really like your attention to detail.

Don't clamp the top tube! even with the foam.
Seatpost, or if you have to, seat tube.

Duly noted (apols TM)!

Loving that chainring and the metal VS copper details (see bell, bolts etc)!
S&S couplings? Traveling plans I take it? :)

Right, photos a bit overdue, but here's the final model.
Packed it up int he suitcase and took it to the Paris Roubaix sportive this year...
And now fully loaded as the poshest bike on the commute...
It's all a bit too heavy to be taken too seriously, though gives me a nice work out on the 8.5 miles to/from work.

Now that's just showing off on the commute :)
Class stylish built I'd be nervous to get it dirty/scraped!

Stunning!

I think I spotted you cycling northwards through Kensington Gardens yesterday just after 7pm Dan W. The panniers certainly caught my eye.

Yup, would have been me

is there a reason you started from the top when taping the handlebar?
Been what feels like an age coming, but now I have just taken delivery of a new frame from Mr Jackson (the build is so-called as my Uncle Bob, now sadly departed, was a massively good egg and is coincidently shares the surname...)
It was always my first attempt at the foolish classic newbie idea to make a bike that will do everything - though realistically it will be a vintagey looking (though with far too many anachronisms to call it purely vintage) non weight weenie steed that will get me to and from work, be a little bit bomb resistant, and hopefully one day join me on at least one cycle holiday. Out of London.
Oh, and I'm doing the pussy-ish 75k route to (and from) Roubaix in April so will initially build it with 28's and mudguards, though hopefully when these come off it won't look too tourery.
I don't doubt the whole black/gold/British steel thing has been done to death, though this one's all mine :)
Anyway, about those anachronisms (largest first, I guess)
135mm rear OLD for an Alfine hub that I have waiting for it.
S&S Couplers
Internal brake routing (and will have aero bars)
Cyclocross levers on the top tube
Some other gimmicky bits
That rear light bit that some trendy Rene Hearse types have for a rear light on the seat tube
Curvy rear seat stays (spent too long looking at Hetchins on Google images)
Arrowhead lugs
Most of the stuff is already sitting at home (and no doubt soon up for sale as it's wrong size/colour/side of whatever mood I'm in), tho will do a build photo before I try to put it all together...
