I'm assuming once the people have bought the console, updates will occur incrementally which will bring the DRM vision to pass.
I'm not a fan of Microsoft, and DRM in general, but its the way things are going, and the fanboy nation getting up in arms about change isn't really going to change the position.
Microsoft back down now, bring it back in two/three years time, when gamers can't do without their blackbox under the tv.

Steam is ok (provided you remember to enable off line access while you still have inet, really should be default). I was avidly against it at first, but now I'm so used to it I get annoyed when I have to use uPlay or some other interface. It's all about pricing, I've no problem with DRM/Digital if it's priced correctly.
Oh and at least with PC if Steam tanks, there's cracks to remove the DRM. And if they get upset with you, you still don't lose your games (I'm looking at you EA, banned in community = all your games gone).

Just in time for the DRM posts.
If you don't have FTL yet, you should feel very bad. When you're done hanging your head, go on to their site and pick up a DRM-free version FTL at a stonking deal of a $2.49.
Along with the DRM-free version, you get a Steam key. And a kick-ass, addicting roguelike game that will kill you many times over.

Also, Steam is having a Paradox sale. Lots of heavy duty strategy fare there that I don't have any experience with yet. But let me sing Crusader Kings II praises.
CKII is unlike any strategy game I've ever played. For one thing, there is no endgame, no victory condition. There is nothing in it you have to do. It's not deep warfare or balancing military units and technology, even though all of that is there.
What it is, is the most machiavellian social RPG/strategy game ever made. I have nurtured dynasties through the ages. I have gone from a brilliant diplomat and military strategist as my head, who suddenly takes ill, people think he's possessed and he dies in his bed. The dynasty then inherited by his slow-witted, clubfooted, incestous freak of a cousin. I have had Ireland take over most of Europe and I've had empires wiped out due to family members scheming.
It's pretty much Game of Thrones, with even more incest and treachery. There are even Game of Thrones mods that change the kingdoms and maps to the books. The basic game lets you play anyone from a lowly baron in some backwater to the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. DLCs added the ability to play Muslim empires or even traders and republics. The newest DLC rolls back the starting date to the 800s and you get to play pagans, Vikings and all sorts of bloodthirsty folk that don't need to hew to the feudal rules.
It's on sale now. It goes on sale a couple times a year on Steam and on various other sites such as Gamers Gate and Green Man Gaming or Amazon. But I really recommend it. I'm playing it now and it was probably tied for my personal game of the year in 2012.

Jesus. Just checked out Gog.com and they're having a No-DRM longest day of summer sale. Some great deals there.
It's Friday night, I just got home from work on the longest day of the year and I'm posting about video games on a cycling forum. I'm going to go away and evaluate my life choices now. But do check out the sales.

hmm $20 for the whole package. Tempting. Gah too many games. I'm going to lose 2013 to games.

downloaded arkham city on xbl and worked my way through the main story line over last two days, really enjoyed it. not quite got the hang of the fighting mechanics yet (some of this big melees i had to do a couple of times as i wasn't blocking enough and got my arse kicked).
even though there's a lot of grind outside the main storyline i felt it was decently paced and the way the environment pulls you into other situations as you go (much like a real world superhero might find when crossing a city) means it doesn't ever really feel that linear.
shooting games have kind of ruined the stealth takedown sections a little though as I kept looking for the gun button so i could just shoot them, but ultimately sneaking up and smacking their heads in then disappearing in a cloud of smoke to stalk your next victim is equally rewarding i think.

I spent a lot of yesterday playing Warhammer 40k, Space Marine. I'm a massive nerd for Warhammer but this it is actually a really good game. Not too long, but you really get caught up in the sense of urgency and it makes it very hard to stop playing.

Cool. Loved a bit of Warhammer as a kid.
Just bought a new Mac, and just been browsing games I can play now I have a half decent computer again. So is Bioshock good?

Infinite is great
-
• #8239
I'm on a Mac. So I'm talking about the first one ;-)

The first two are on steam. The first one is good, but looks a little dated now (came out in 2007), The second one is very good (better graphics, slightly more advanced gameplay), but the story is linked to the first one so..
3rd one is standalone from the previous ones though.

They're all great.

Playing my PS3 again, cod 5 W@W is still fun even with all the modders.
I decided to install mods today, it was way too easy and took well under 5 mins, now deleted them.

They're all great.
This.
The second one might feel a tad lacklustre compared to the story of the first one but it's still quite gripping.
Minera's Den is definitely a worthwhile DLC for Bioshock 2, I even prefer it to the original story in BS2, especially the slight twist in the ending.

Latest in the saga of Brun's broken PS3 ...
Was up in Leeds over the weekend. Told my sister's boyfriend about the whole thing, and he suggested I could borrow his for the time being. Apparently he rarely uses it, but when he does gets completely obsessed and neglects work, sleep, my sister etc.
Brought it back down on the train. Result.

^^ not true.
Loved ico, couldn't get past the first dude on colossus. Nearly smashed my controller.
so the being able to share with 10 people was tied into being online once every 24 hours. This was to verify that you didn't buy a game, install it, then give the game disc to a friend (as you didn't need the disc to play).
However, it seems most games would have only been playable for 60 minutes as a loan, and some as low as 15 minutes. It's a great idea (like Kindle here in the US you can loan books), the way of the future etc... Also, they really need to sort out digital pricing first as well. Steam at least does massive sales where shit really IS cheap (Just got Dead Island for $5), yet Xbox and PS digital games cost more than store bought copies
