But then you need a phone with ANT+ indeed. And you need a few extra external batteries for rides. I don't think that you will be able to finish a nice 6 hour ride while using your iPhone for this info.
Wouldn't it be easier to get a Garmin 500? You can upgrade that lateron with a power meter.
