Does that work if it's a .gpx too? I've just run the .gpx though an xml validator and it said no errors were found.
Some posts on the strava forum seem to suggest that Strava won't accept .gpx files if they don't have time data on them. But I recorded my drive to work and uploaded it successfully to Strava the other day as a test, and this time I have done nothing different. I wish I still had that file so I could compare them.
