Lads on cheapo 'pavement' MTBs do it too. I often think it's a brilliant deterrent as it looks like a dare. "Go on son - flip it over and roll away with it - I dare ya". I always imagine that if anyone helped themselves they'd get about ten feet before meeting a sticky end.
