Clutch doesn't stop the chain coming off completely. It's a hell of a lot better than no clutch, but I still shipped the chain twice up at Afan last week, but then it's rocky as fuck up there and i'm on a full floater now so the chain is getting thrown around more I guess.

Cam, I have an old superstar guide in my parts box. Want? Email me if you do, I can pop it in the post.

all that guiding technology on your bike isn't working gabes, check chain length, also could be your long mech and the 1x10. Seems odd that you dropped the chain.

Long mech hater.

To be honest, the chain came off the first time because my clutch was switched off. Then the front chain guide (hope one) wasn't close enough so the chain could slip past it on some rocky stuff.
It's all working peachy now. I will take a few links out of the chain though. I also picked up some brand new fox float 34s on t'Bay for 500 quid! That's 400 below retail. The guy had chopped the steerer super short (160mm) which is perfect for my frame, but too short for just about all other frames on earth. So no-one else bid against me. Soul near where it was made. This place had fewer and smaller rocks than 80% of the rest of the route.

Saw a peice on telly about DH riders hiking to the tops of mountains, and nailing it 'off piste' through farms etc. Proper bonkers.
Hafjell looks amazing.
Think I'll start with my local, much less knarly, ski slope to start with.

Alesund.
Right next to Sunnmøre alps. Which has loads of places to do loads of types of off-roading. None of which I manage to find the time to do. So I tend to grab an hour or 2 on local stuff when I can.

I get that around me where the valleys are steep but not very tall.
They've had the air ambulance and mountain rescue out 3 times in the past year.

I get why exciting downhill makes a good video in a way that some bod crawling up a mountain for 3 hours doesn't, and neither does seeing some bloke do 10 miles of broadly flat singletrack.
But to what extent is the culture of videos influencing riding and if so is it detracting from the fact that just getting on your bike and riding cross country is brilliant fun? Much prefer up and down, single-track, mud and rideable (small) rocks to boring flat fire-roads, but it is all good. More chllenging stuff? Yes, it interests me and I should pursue it, but I'm not that bothered. Is there a risk that MTB will increasingly be seen as an extreme sport (thus putting off ordinary riders from just riding their bikes off road where they can be safer than on road)?
You're over thinking this, just ride your bike however you want.
If you look back 13-14 years ago, there were mountain bikers throwing themselves off cliffs, you didn't follow suit then, what's changed?

You're on a bike forum instead of just riding your bike.....

Motorsport is only even shown when it's racing hard on challenging courses. Do you think they're going to make videos of people driving down the motorway or driving around town? Is that an extreme sport?
