Stealing a messengers bike in downtown portland and you're asking for an ass beating.
Woah, couriers there use donkeys as security! Nuts.

welded racks are much more solid. I bought a rack and it was shit and wobbled a lot so i made my own up out of thin 10mm box section all welded. Much more solid can easily take more weight than the bike can handle. And unladen its lighter than the original rack was anyway . Plus you can custom make them to sit nice on your bike intread of the standard type that fits bikes from 48-64 frames

Did you use steel or alu? Rather tempted to make some sort of rack for mine but not looking forward to the additional weight on a bike that's already 10kg

its steel. Doesn't weigh much at all though. Can't notice its there if its empty. And if its loaded up then your not worrying about weight anyway. When i take it off to paint it I will try to remember to weigh it.

This thread has started to be become all about racks.
I wonder if I should post something funny I saw and photographed today, or if I should just start a thread of my own for what I'm into about it. I have a growing love of Londony bikes, crappy, shonky, wierd bikes. Bikes with chutzpah. Bikes with soul. I wonder if anyone else would like to take part, a kind of bikes for all, counter-anti-porn, if you will. I certainly wouldn't want to start a sodding blog, or facebook group, since lfgss is my excuse for not really much wanting the rest of the internets in my life.
Should I? Or is this thread, with it's title that includes 'beaters' and 'frankenbikes', where they should live? It seems to be all a bit reader's wives of late (I am guilty of this too).

Hi, just thought I post my rat. It's a reynolds 725 frame I bought on here. Apparently a prototype of the genesis flyer with lighter tubing, nothing fancy, built with some cheapo parts and varno wheels. But definitely fun to ride!

nice username, nice bike
Technically, you're wrong about that.
Regardless, I meant to compare welding vs bolting techniques, not what could be done with that specific rack. The foldability aspect of the TCB rack is ace in this age of internet shopping.
