Can I raise the issue of a UKHBPA email newsletter?
It would be useful to let people know of decisions that are being made/have been made via an email newsletter as not all the people who the UKHBPA will be representing are regular forum users.

Email? Welcome to the 90s snoops.
Edit: Sorry, that's not very constructive. Maybe in this day and age there are better media for this sort of information than email.

Well all the other media would require people to be online checking things constantly. FB or Twitter, what else did you have in mind?
Email is the best way to be sure that everyone who needs to know information, has been given that information.
Nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned newsletter!

Email has a number of flaws for group communication. Firstly spam, everyone gets all the information, regardless of whether they want it or not. That just leads to people ignoring it.
Secondly someone needs to manage the membership list, that's a fair amount of work.
Thirdly it doesn't support things like polls, threads, etc.
If I was proposing a solution for this (while wearing my work hat), I'd probably suggested a private social network, for example Yammer or SocialGo, for the following reasons:
The default is pull notification, but you can setup push notification if required (to email if you so desire).
Support for groups and topics (tags), so people can choose to read the information they want, but also be in groups so they get all the information on a certain topic if they desire.
Support for polls, threads
Email will work too though, I don't actually care.

Just something that notifies people of what is going on, I haven't heard of your suggestions but they sound good.
I'd argue that more online forums will put people off checking though. I still think email newsletter is the least scarey (to luddites) and most effective way of letting everyone know.

You do have a point there, I of course see it from the point of view of an IT professional.
Let the tags begin...

Mega massive bump!
So we're exactly a year on from the first UKHBPA 'meeting'. To become a recognised governing body by Sport England, an organisation must have had a minimum of two minuted AGMs. If any UK players meet in March/April and vote three new candidates for positions such as Chair, Secretary or Treasurer then we have met that condition and have passed another milestone on the way to becoming 'official' which of course leads to funding, help with resources, etc.
I don't believe the forum is a constructive place to discuss this and of course, there are some concerns about the first meeting so I am going to email/message every UK scene that I know of to start the ball rolling. If you would like to be involved then please send me a message with your email address. Please do not post on this thread.
