  • URT so not the best.

Found this - had a chuckle:

It was terrifying. Whenever you rode through a whoop, the suspension compressed, the head angle slackened and the steering went very, very slow. When you rode over a dropoff, the suspension fully extended, the head angle steepened and the steering went very, very quick. Just what you need...

  • ^ ooof. Exceptional.

What were the Klein Mantra like to ride?

There was also a school of thought that having the shock pointed tight up the seatpost made them uncomfy (transmit shocks straight to the saddle?). I've no idea as I never rode one, but it was certainly mentioned in the press a number at the time.

This thread is ace - I used to have a Pro-flex, but rode with Pace's instead of Girvins. I'm now persuading myself to get a pair [of Girvin's] for my Slingshot...

  • Ace tread indeed.

I had a Proflex 854 with the Girvins. No damping in the 'shock' just yellow elastomers. They were brilliant. They were engineered to get stiffer in cold weather when you don't need as much travel. Meh, it was early suspension. What can you say..

I also have a URT Trek Y bike. The stock Stratos shock was shit straight out the factory. The ride was completely different depending on whether you were standing or sitting. Standing up peddling on the Trek reduced the the efficiency of the shock loads. Sat peddling it wasn't to bad. Either sat or standing it bobs loads.

    Yeahhh CSB, etc.

  • whoa whoa stop with all the plastic wheels, i'm getting a headache

  • This.

  • philosovril with some strong posts there

Slingshot with Vector fork, I want to see that!

Cool story indeed, I had the chance to buy a Y-frame a while back for not too much money... Passed up on it because of the inferior rear suspension design.

  • Cannondale Super V spliced with a swingarm from a Jekyll giving rise to a 150mm travel monster. Apparently requires 'cutting and drilling' the V frame.

  • ah yes cutting and drilling a frame ... just what springs to mind whenever i am buying my n+1

  • Apparently the results are worth it - a superlight, bonkers looking AM rig with all the right angles. Who knew?

  • I used to ride a URT, in those days of 3-4 inch travel it seemed to make a little sense...

  • strong look

  • incorrect thread

  • ^ wut?
