The other day there was a line of stationary traffic the way I was heading all the way up to a set of lights at a crossroads. Between me and those lights was a light-controlled pedestrian crossing.
Nothing was coming the other way so I was overtaking the stationary cars. As I approached the pedestrian crossing, with the lights on green, four kids who must have been about 5 or 6 ran out from between the cars, followed by their mum, walking. She turned and saw me slowing down only when she was half way across the other lane, seemingly as an afterthought. She had obviously just pushed her kids into the road, between two stopped cars, on a red light, without even checking herself if anyone was coming. Great example.
If I'd been Strava-hunting, carelessly brklzing, or just not paying attention, it could have been horrible. Luckily I tend to expect the worst of people.
