  • £10 is the max free disposable income we have after bills/rent/blah. Taking it out in cash each day stops us buying shit online as we can see exactly how much spare money we have.
I spend around £4/day of it so most goes straight back into savings that I can't get my hands on.

  • Oh, gotcha. Well, £4 is a pint and a packet of pig bits, so that's acceptable.

  • Fairshares on Crampton Street, Elephant and castle do bulk rice, millet, quinoa, lentils and dried beans. You take your own bag and fill up with however much you want, weigh it and pay. It a vegan, volunteer run co-op but it's super affordable and you know there's no exploitation of farmers.

  • ^ Sounds amazing... Nour Cash & Carry for all your other needs...

    This.

Got 3 Aubergine for a quid.

And brought £24 worth of vegs for a fiver in New Covent Garden Market.

  • Has anyone ever skipped new Covent garden market? Apparantly if you're nice to security they let you get loads of the days leftover fruit and veg.

  • For free I should add..

  • I did picked up some decent flowers that have been thrown away the night before, that sound pretty useful.

  • Lidl have boneless pork shoulders for half price this weekend. A massive (>2kg) piece perfect for pulled pork was around £7. They are doing an own brand BBQ sauce for 99p and a kilo of french fry style oven chips for 69p which would make a very cheap way of feeding a bunch of people. I'd be on it if I didn't already have some pork in the freezer from the last time it was this cheap.

This may be the most unhealthy suggestion on this thread but at least my name is apt.

  • Gah! That's a rotten looking diet...

Not saying I could do better but... I could definitely do better...

  • For those of you into Foraging;

Nows a good time to go get nettles. Well it is here, they mightve gotten a bit big and stringy down south already.

They look like this on the south coast at the moment...

  • Might of been posted before but...

    A Girl Called Jack

  • sensational taste and only £1.60 for two.

  • That really isn't convincing.

A fish head, two fins and half a lemon.

  • it has the best meat on it.

  • Really?

  • you never ordered a salmon head or jaw in a japanese restaurant?
I am not joking, it is fantastic.

  • I'll take your word for it. Similar to pigs trotters then?

  • only similar in that they are both underrated, cheap and awesome. but i have to agree that pic is not exactly appetising. Sorry sohi!

Fish head curry on the other hand...

  • I'll take your word for it. Similar to pigs trotters then?

    Similar to pigs cheeks even.

  • ...butt cheeks or chubby cheeks?

  • Healthy budget breakfast:

You can get a bag of Meusli for less than a quid, a bunch of bananas for a quid and tesco sell these small low fat fruit yoghurts for 15p. Buy ten yoghurts (not bad for £1.50 really) and all the above for a week's worth of breakfast.

Meusli, a chopped banana and two of those yoghurts in a bowl is a damn good breakfast. Aside from the bag of Meusli, that's £3.50 for five meals. The bag of cereal will last a good few weeks as well.

  • Take a close look at the muesli ingredients; for one thing, a lot of them (particularly the cheaper ones) really stack them with sugar. You can probably make your own, cheaper muesli simply by mixing together oats and nuts (raisins if you care to).

Although I would just get the oats and make porridge.
