i've heard that you may be able to sue a council for the damages if the pot hole was above a certain size... not sure if that is helpful or not

I think butters did that with council after a pothole fucked his bike.
btw if the wheel is radially and laterally true, and there are no cracks, its fine. mine lasted over a year and is still going strong. -

document the pot hole, and get the council to pay up for the damage.
Take it to a LBS, find out the cost of getting the rims replaced (or a new front wheel if this turn out to be cheaper).

I never got anywhere with the council. Maybe I could have if I spent a bit more time on it, but I already bought a new wheel and decided I couldn't be bothered. Smashed Aerospoke is still sat in my pile of spares. Might make it into a coffee table.

Thanks for the replies - have photographed the hole and have emailed the council. Not holding my breath but you never know...
Going to try manually straightening it out the weekend, will let you know if it ends in total disaster or not...

Attempting to bend it back will do more damage, should be ok to ride as it is I would've thought, have ridden many a dinged rim in the past.
Hit one of the many pot-holes on the OKR on my way home last night and put a reasonably hefty dent in the rim of my front wheel.
My first question is - do you think it's repairable? I'm loathed to buy an entirely new wheel because Southwark council can't be arsed to look after the roads...
If so, do you think I need to take it to an LBS? I stumbled across the link below and to doesn't seem too difficult to attempt, even with my limited mechanical knowledge:
