Cant help you with the markings since I'm not that good on older campy but do you really care if the locking is original or not if it fits? Thats going to depend on your hub anyway. Some older freehubs take the 26mm lockring but some will need the 29mm (which i think is the 8speed original). Current size is 27mm.

I've just been through my stack of sprockets and not all say "Campagnolo". I'd not thought about it before and it's not consistent, ie I have the same sprocket both with and without branding.
Possibly it depends on the group or when they were manufactured; possibly I've bought some ringers?
However, they do all have a timing mark over the small spline: either "c" in a diamond or a triangle pointing outwards.
They also state the number of teeth and either "A", "B" or "C" depending on which cassette they make up.
I've not used 9v so can't be certain, but the hubs are different so I'm dubious: but obviously it isn't the original lockring.

thanks for the help guys, on each sprocket it has the number of teeth followed by an "M" sadly no "c" in sight so i believe i've been duped and sold a (possibely mavic?) 8 speed cassette with a 9 speed campagnolo lockring. just double checking that every sprocket should have a "C" somewhere on it, and if not, it means its not campag.
Thanks again Scilly and Badboy -

I'd say it's a miche one with the 'M'
Maybe

Mine *either *have a "c" in a diamond *or *a triangle, but this is just the timing mark to align the sprockets correctly and not branding.
I couldn't say that the presence or absence of either proves who made it, but from what you've written it doesn't seem to be genuine Campag.
Did you check the first link I posted? Is it Exa Drive?
If you're not happy the incorrect lockring should be grounds enough to return it: got a link to the Ebay sale?

Thanks again Scilly and BadboyI took a look at some pics of exa cogs on ebay and they all seem to have campagnolo stamped. So possibly yours is Miche.
Letters on campy cassettes like the C mentioned (theres a b c etc) is just something campy uses to know which cog can go on which. You cant mix and match a cassette randomly unless you are okay with crappy shifting, hence the letters (just need to look at the scheme and than you can do some mixing)
If your locking is campy 26mm its worth some cash, perhaps it helps smooth the possibly faulty description. Like 35 usd or similar. Ridiculous ofc but ...

Cosmo, have you used the part yet? How is it shifting? From the above posts I think you are right and you have been fibbed to.

I've measure the threaded diameter of the lockring and it appears to be either 25 or 26 mm. do 9 speed 25 mm lockrings exist from camag? if not then i can sleep easy in the knowledge that karma has worked its way nicely into this ebay transaction. thanks again for all the help.
just purchased an 8 speed exa-drive on ebay but i have some queries.
Firstly, there are no markings on any of the sprockets that suggest it is campagnolo, does this mean it isn't?
Secondly, the cassette has a campagnolo lockring which says "9 speed" on it but it is an 8 speed cassette. It was listed as having the "original lockring" does this mean this was a fib?
From my (limited) experience, most campagnolo components have campagnolo marked somewhere on them, the only markings on the whole cassette however are on the dubious lockring. Thanks for helping me clear this up, photos upon request.
