I have a very good friend who passed away last week. Although I knew he was ill, his death has both shocked and upset me.
I first met Michael back in 1996. He was a man at the the top of his game who knew how to get what he wanted. He poached me from one company to work for another because he'd been told good things. Buoyed by this, we worked together for a long time before we eventually went our separate ways. I'll never forget what he taught me and to this day I find myself quoting him on a fairly regular basis.
When I spoke to him in later years, he'd developed further his notorious acid-tongue and short shrift was dealt to those who crossed him.
Although I'd not seen him in years, he'll always remain an influence on how my career has changed and developed.
Today is his memorial service and I can't be there.
