Brixton CC Supermad Celebrating the legendary Rob Jefferies
In homage to big Ron Beckett
Herne Hill has Madison fever. And we like to think Brixton CC kick started this back in 2009 when it featured a Madison in its race programme. The Madison now features in loads more Herne Hill meets and training sessions.
The Brixton meet has had a few changes since but remains a very individual meet. This years Supermad is committed to giving women riders equity in the prize money.
The lovely folk at Friends of Herne Hill have put up £100 for the women’s Keirin alone. Thank you.
We have special bags of sweeties , free track bike services, goodies galore for competitors - a cycle jumble, beer tent and our own club chefs frying up hot chicken. And of course all set to a backdrop of Robs favourite tunes.
Rob Jefferies remains a big presence for the Supermad meet. We are committed to remembering this outstanding cyclist and all round good bloke.
If you asked Rob about his best moments in cycling he would say either winning his first national medal - Kierin 1993- or winning the West Thames 20K with a certain Mr Wiggins second.
Now his daughter Eve has thrown herself into track cycling. No pressure but she got Dad and bro’ to match up to.
In 1998 with Robs help George was bagging national medals with Gold in the U16 500m TT and Bronze in the 2km pursuit and sprint.
The meet pays homage to the lovely Ron Beckett. One of Robs and our favourite track judges and all round kind man. We miss you both.
