Travel insurance that covers Bikes?

I have bee shopping around for travel insurance and most dont seem to cover bicycles? Not sure why but they dont.

Anyone have a good recommendation for bicycle travel insurance?

Are bikes excluded from being covered as sporting equipment?

If not then just claim it/them as that if the worst happens.

I've had the same problem pretty much every policy if you read the fine print it specifically excludes pedal cycles (the fine print in the baggage part of the policy). Also make sure your policy covers you for cycling - most do - some don't.

I know CTC does policys that will cover your bike but they were so much more expensive that I'm just going to take a good lock and hope for the best.

Looking around I can't find a policy that will cover more than 300 quid as a single item limit. And airlines seem only to be responsible upto 1000 quid. If my bike gets smashed or lost I am going to be left seriously out of pocket.

Is there a good travel insurance policy for bikes out there?
Or does everyone flying with a bike just cross their fingers and pray?

I wonder if they insure foreigners? anyone? or it does not make a difference?

if your bikes are insured on your contents insurance they may be covered abroad. something like 30 days outside EU and 90 within but they will all be different so check first. had this problem last year when wanting to take the bike to NYC.

I was looking for the same on this threat, and thenrealised that my ETA insurance already covers bicycles abroad. awesome!

I am going cycle touring for 2 weeks in France next Tuesday.

I am then going to be cycling across Europe for about 2 months (Aug-Sept).
I'll spend October in Turkey or Northern India, November in Nepal and be heading back to Oz permanently mid-Dec.

Anyone got any amazing ideas about what sort of policy I should be looking for?
Annual ones only do 90 days so that its out.
I think I'll have to get 2 separate single trip policies. Lots of places I've looked at like insure and go cover touring, but not a bike (or jewlery).

I need some cover just for the weekend- spoke to Hiscox and they won't cover me.

That only leaves driving the Volvo and sleeping on the bike box.

Always traveled under the impression that my Hiscox insured the bike on planes. Will have to read the policy again.

Hiscox cover goes up to £2,500

Velosure goes up to £7,500, for £45.50

Well I went with Velosure in the end, 7 days cost £45.30.

I do feel a bit annoyed, but if the bike vanished into Gatwicks baggage handling area never to be seen again it'd numb the pain a bit.

Anyone know how to prove value of a bike or its components to insurer if you bought them second hand or so many years ago that you could not possibly have receipts?

My bike is worth is only worth £300 so I do not need special insurance.

annoyingly velosure won't cover for USA. Any other recommendations? its to play in the world champs in florida. Some insurers won't cover 'competitions'

What recommendations for bike specific travel insurance?

I'm travelling to the US in a few days and planning on taking my bike. It's my training bike so (apart from the power meter) it's not worth a whole lot but i'd like it covered. Obviously it'll be transported in a proper box etc.

p.s. it'd possibly be useful (but not essential) if the policy covered me for all the routine travel insurance stuff as well.

Will call Velosure but somewhat disheartened to hear they mightn't cover the US.

So, all this was sparked because my work insurance were very unsure about covering the bike. Eventually it transpired it would be covered up to £1,000 however in the process of discovering this the insurer discovered that cycling was not a part of my risk assessment and as it is a "leisure activity" I wouldn't be covered while cycling and neither would my bike. Hence the quest for private cover.

I tried a number of conventional travel insurers (trail finders etc) but they don't do bikes.

Also tried Velosure but as with the above example, they won't cover trips to the USA.

Finally I contacted Citibond Suretravel via the CTC website and they sorted it all. So far I would thoroughly recommend, although obviously I haven't had to claim yet.

Not sure if that will help anybody in the future.
