Doping

  • I've been thinking a lot about performance enhancement in a much wider cultural context, and I'm going to remain anti-anti-doping.

    Sorry.

  • Any chance of a translation into English? :-)

    Not from me, no.

  • This. It's not a doping positive. It's a "low cortisone" warning.

It would be low "cortisol" warning, no? Brought on by the use of the banned 'cortisone'.

Here you go, this is le proper explanationz..

    http://inrng.com/2013/06/mpcc-cortisol-test/

  • I red the piece above,
very clever piece to cover such a hot trail.

The team manager explained the 6 times less hormone concentration by a too early test, what about the others done within an hour?
Does this hormone vary so wildly usually along the day?
    When is a good time?
The people running the tests should know of this,
why did they proceeded that way?

Let's try this entirely fictional story:
a team complying to the mpcc rules did not register ,
2 of its riders failed tests.
All the teams know about the results of the rider's test,
the rider still started the race,
    the other teams complained.
The mpcc is run by all the big hitters in the industry,
    they would loose face,
they made a few phone calls
"You're making us look bad, you're attracting attention, etc"
possibly in a Marlon Brando's impression.

    Racer retires after 20k.
Manager explains to the sponsors, "it's them".

  • It would be low "cortisol" warning, no? Brought on by the use of the banned 'cortisone'.

Yes. I blame my fat hands.

  • Sylvain Georges is fired from AG2R.
His team manager is the treasorer of mpcc,
whose team didn't enter the Dauphine,
    complying to the rules .

Rolland's case is clearly indicated on the mpcc site in rule n° 6 here:
    http://www.mpcc.fr/index.php/fr/mpcc
His team manager is heading the national league,
    it's first rule is:
1°) To protect the physical integrity of professionals racers
    http://www.lncpro.fr/decouvrez/?Content=statuts-missions&PHPSESSID=icbd34vrnbj79c1gkq1pcgbcg6
There are 4 rules, the first 3 were broken in this case.

    He won't be fired.

  • Would a testosterone booster help cycling? I know it can assist with growing muscles when doing weight training but would it help with cycling?

  • You mean zinc?

  • for example, here is the Stacker2 Testo-4HD

    Testo-4HD complex Testo-4HD complex
    Tribulus Terrestris (30% Protodioscin)
    Maca (Lepidium meyenii) (leaves)
    Zinc (Zinc Aspartate)
    Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine HCI)
    Magnesium (Magnesium Aspartate)
    Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol)
    Stacker Anabolic Complex ™
    Acanthus Virilis (Muira Puama)
    Rhodiola rosea (2% Salidroside)
    Damiana (Turnera diffusa) (leaf)
    Avena Sativa

  • Removing the multivitamin ingredients... that leaves..

    ** Tribulus Terrestris (30% Protodioscin)**
"However, T. terrestris has failed to increase testosterone levels in controlled studies."
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribulus_terrestris#Dietary_supplement

    ** Maca (Lepidium meyenii) (leaves)**
"A 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 56 subjects found that Maca has no effect on sex hormone levels in men, including LH, FSH, prolactin, 17-OH progesterone, testosterone or estradiol."
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lepidium_meyenii#Aphrodisiac_claims

    ** Acanthus Virilis (Muira Puama)**
"in a 1990 study conducted by Jacques Waynsberg at the Institute of Sexology in Paris, 62% of men who took muira puama extract noted an increase in sex drive and 51% of participants reported an increased ability to produce an erection.[4][unreliable medical source?]"
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ptychopetalum

    **
    Rhodiola rosea (2% Salidroside)**
" Studies on whether Rhodiola improves physical performance have been inconclusive, with some studies showing some benefit,[27] while others show no significant difference."
A 2007 clinical trial from Armenia showed significant effect for a Rhodiola extract in doses of 340–680 mg per day in male and female patients from 18 to 70 years old with mild to moderate depression. No side effects were demonstrated at these doses[21] Another study also found antidepressant properties,[22] possibly via the plant's inhibition of MAO-A and MAO-B.[23]
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodiola_rosea#Phytochemicals_and_potential_health_effects

    ** Damiana (Turnera diffusa) (leaf)**
Several animal testing studies have shown evidence of increased sexual activity in rats of both sexes.
May be effective as anti anxiety drug
"A product known as "Black Mamba", labelled as containing "100% Damiana", has been on sale in the UK; ill effects from its use have been reported. Black Mamba is now illegal in the UK."
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turnera_diffusa#Uses

    **Avena Sativa
    **Posh name for Oats:-)

  • So, unlike actual testosterone I'd say these boosters are a bit of a waste of money. There might be some effect (placebo or not) but there's a risk of negatives obviously (stomach upsets seem common).

  • So I guess it's pointless to take it.

I'm almost out of stackers and the don't sell them anymore (last batch they made and expiration date is august 2013).

  • I would have thought cycling with an erection, reduces your ability to get down into an aero position. So any gain would be lost.

I'll do some tests wearing my powercal belt, and some love-eggs this evening to verify.

  • Yeah if it doesn't work I don't want to spend money on them.

    Testo-4HD complex Testo-4HD complex

    Tribulus Terrestris (30% Protodioscin)
    testosterone booster
    helps building muscles

    Maca (Lepidium meyenii) (leaves)
    Increases libido
    Improves semen quality

    Zinc (Zinc Aspartate)
    Prevents aging of the muscles?

    Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine HCI)
    Improves mensturation (really helpful XD)
Also helps with problems for pregnant women

    Magnesium (Magnesium Aspartate)
    Causes brain damage?

    Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol)
    No idea?

    Stacker Anabolic Complex ™
    Yeah...

    Acanthus Virilis (Muira Puama)
    Improves libido
    Improves happyness
    Energy booster
    LSD like hallucinate

    Rhodiola rosea (2% Salidroside)
    Anti-depressant
    Anti-sleepiness

    Damiana (Turnera diffusa) (leaf)
    Relaxation

    Avena Sativa
One of the main ingredients of growing beer. No idea what

  • Well having a libido boost after cycling can be a great help.

I remember a few years ago. I had sex with this girl and I had to bring her home on my "new" bicycle (got it for free but never ridden it before). After a few minuts of cycling I lost the feeling in my genitals. It took me a while to connect it to a poorly placed saddle. I wasn't able to get it up again for about 2 hours due to nubmness. Really strange.

  • Thanks for sharing

  • I'm sure we will all sleep easier now.

  • Would a testosterone booster help cycling?

  • french magazine article comparing raw data from 21 riders. Green is clean, yellow suspicious, orange miraculous and red means they've had a dose of gamma radiation

  • This is a good article on the 'Not Normal' paper;

    http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/06/news/new-report-presents-data-driven-doubts-on-performances-past-and-present_290708

As much as I love Wiggo I do have my doubts about Team Sky, the way they tried to hush up the Dr Leinders thing didn't help their cause and the British media seem scared to ask awkward questions.

  • How did they "hush up" the Dr Leinders thing exactly? He was listed on their website as a member of staff last season, that's a major marginal gain missed in the world of subterfuge and espionage.

  • This is a good article on the 'Not Normal' paper;

    http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/06/news/new-report-presents-data-driven-doubts-on-performances-past-and-present_290708

"Findings were generated via calculations — many of the performances took place before the advent of power meters — but according to the report, and a side-by-side analysis of actual power data from Chris Horner (RadioShack-Leopard), the wattage numbers are close."

    Urgh...

  • ^^ quite. It's not like they hid him in the shadows - they just handled the PR fallout reasonably well.

  • the wattage numbers are close.

Except for the times they aren't; worst case was 9% out, which could be the difference between a great but human 6.0W/kg and a highly suspicious 6.5
