Need help with running a LHD fixed !

  • Hey guys , just bought a bombtrack dash and seeing as I will be running pegs with it I want to have it as left hand drive not right hand which it comes as. So can I just flip the back wheel round or won't that work because it might start undoing the cog or something ? I don't really know much about hubs and stuff so any help will be great !
    Cheers!

  • Get a hub that takes bolt on cogs. Job done.

  • I got told I could just flip the wheel over and it will work? Will it ?
Because I don't really want to spend anymore money yet

  • well technically you will be undoing he sprocket bu then again the lockring will be tightening up
ask whittle, he has experience running this

Exactly what he said - each pedal stroke forwards technically undoes the sprocket, but every time you slow down you're tightening it again. There's actually an argument that it's more safe LHD as the pressure you put on when stopping is greater than accelerating (unless you're superman!) Whittle ran several bikes brakeless with LHD and had no issues.

So do you reckon I'll be fine just flipping the wheel over then ? Like just taking it off and flipping it. Ima kinda useless with hubs and how they work , sorry if I sound like a idiot or I don't make any sense !

  • I'd say so - just like it was a flip flop hub...

  • remember about loctiting the pedals though

Swap the axles over. No need to damage the threads or use glue

    ?!

  • You have to put the cranks on the 'wrong' side. if you use the pedal that goes with the crank then the pedal is backwards and puts your foot further back (unless you have cheap pedals). So instead just pop out the axles in the pedals and swap them over. Tight enough and they won't undo.

I've heard of people cross-threading pedals and using loctite instead of doing it properly.

  • Just buy some Profiles, flip the rear wheel and where the advice says "liberally grease cog and lock-ring threads", substitute 'grease' for Araldite Metal Glue.

And tighten the fuck out of it.

Have been running this set up for months.

  • Oh, and buy a good cog because it isn't coming off.
You will only get two goes per wheel..

  • It's a bike with bmx cranks and probably spline drive or has bolt holes on both crank arms so you can probably just put the sprocket on the other side and leave the arms and pedals alone.

That^ plus flipping my wheel is all I did (and all hundreds of fgfs riders have done) to go lhd and it's fine.

I even accidentally rode with no lockring with no ill effects for a few weeks, didn't notice till I took the wheel off again. I don't recommend this tho.

  • Alright then so ill just spin my wheel round 180 and put It back on if that's what your all saying !! Hope I've understood right otherwise my wheels gunna be fooked I guess!

    Thanks guys !
