  • A completely unscientific approach is working wonders for me. I consider the outcomes that I wish to achieve, ride my bike a bit in a way that's appropriate, and am brutally honest with myself regarding how much rest I need.

    I feel great and the whole process seems like just having fun on my bike.

    Hooray.

    This is my approach on the road.

    Oh look a km of mid gradient road ahead. I'll sit and spin up it at near max effort.

    Oh look a short sharp climb. I'll get out of the saddle and big ring it.

    This section is flat. I'll see how long I can maintain a FTP tempo effort.

    ....etc...

    I like to push myself a bit. So this strategy adds enjoyment to my rides.

    The turbo is for suffering though. Scientifically focused, and optimised, suffering. It will never be fun in the real sense. So endure the pain, and crunch the numbers.
