Doesn't stop me from riding around on an aluminium Vitus that weighs in at 7.5kg complete

  • Cheap light (200g) Michelin Pro 3 Race tyres are £16.99 in Decathlon atm

  • I realise clothing has been mentioned already, but specifically shoes are a relatively cheap item to upgrade and its possible to easily save 100-200grams (depending what shoes you already have of course).

  • Get rid of your spokes. They dont serve much purpose anyway...

  • I've got hollowtech I'm running 2011 ultegra, and the crankset is 53/39 its actually pretty light

  • As has been said already .. From an acceleration point of view, the 'rotational' weight is the best place to start saving weight. From a climbing point of view, there is no difference between 'rotational' and 'real' weight. Your 1500g wheel will feel like 1500g at constant climbing. Also look at the details. Someone mentioned shoes but also what pedals are you using?

  • Get rid of your spokes. They dont serve much purpose anyway...

    Example..

  • You got a crap bike, change it for a better one that doesn't feel sluggish.

  • Cut down Thomson post and 135g SLR save +/- 200g

Better wheels and lighter tyres save +/- 1kg

    and den?

Although the "sluggish" feeling could be to do with the 531 flexing when compared to the alu....

    just HTFU

  • Although the "sluggish" feeling could be to do with the 531 flexing when compared to the alu....

And the fact it's a large frame too, which it's more like a rectangle than a triangle.

  • Unicycle it

Conclusions A lighter bicycle did not lead to a detectable difference in commuting time. Cyclists may find it more cost effective to reduce their own weight rather than to purchase a lighter bicycle.

Best conclusion to any scientific paper ever.

  • Go on a diet.

Best conclusion to any scientific paper ever.

    cough cough

  • Yeah but at first it was you saying it and then it was science saying it and everyone knows that you are not to be trusted but science is always right.

  • Only God's right.

  • ^scientifically proven.

  • When science tells you to loose weight, God nods his head. Tubby

  • Where I lead, science follows.

  • Said AndyP, director of the CRU.

  • Where I lead, science follows.

  • Anyway, the regulations state that your bike has to be 10% of your body weight or less, use this as a guide as to whether it is you, or your bicycle that needs to lose some tub.

  • Thin walled 531 in a massive 62cm is technically a gate.

Thus, gate flex, ditch it for a compact.

  • I can confirm there is no science in this ^ post.

  • high scoble rating though.
