  • Anyone using laptop batteries should be aware that Li-ion batteries need a protection circuit to run safely. Unprotected batteries are liable to explode or catch fire if overcharged. If you're going to harvest batteries from a laptop you should know that they are protected by a separate circuit in the casing, so if you remove them each cell is unprotected. They're perfectly safe if you use a charger which protects against overcharge and you don't use them in series.
