Two banking questions:
- How much of a faff is it to change banks?
- Which ISA should I be using this year?
Are there credit unions in the UK?

Are there credit unions in the UK?
Yes, though I've no real experience of them. I just looked and this http://www.creditunion.co.uk/ISA.htm has a 3% ISA, which is basically untold riches in the rip-off world of savings.

I mentioned that because out here, as the banks abandon inner cities and regular people with their paltry sums of savings, the credit unions seem to be stepping in. I like that there is a bit more local control on where and how the money is invested. Of course, being co-operatively based, the profits are returned to all of the members.

I like the idea of co-operative banking (I am planning to switch to the Co-op) but their ISA offers fuck all, or more precisely, 0.5%.
My only qualm about anything too local is that I only really access my account online and will never go into a branch, particularly if it is close to my house rather than my work. Basically I'm looking for ethics + convenience + interest rates. Surely it's not too much to ask...

I can access my accounts anywhere in the cosmos as far as that goes.
Interest rates don't affect me much as I don't have enough cash for a couple of points to make a difference with. I think that long term saving is more important than good rates that may jump around and cause one to focus/fret too much on/about your money. -

I bank with smile [HA!], and just moved my ISA from Nationwide who were appalling, to Santander. Best options always listed here:

Stories involving getting drunk and falling over, OK.
Stories involving taking mushrooms and rodgering midgets, not OK.
Just say shit that makes Henry look bad and Emily look good and how you're all pleased that Emily has made Henry better and everyone is now happy families.
