^^ I think this is what's behind a lot of the cycle hatred from younger drivers - they're scared that they're going to hit a cyclist, and perhaps they realise that they're not a good enough driver. They then turn this fear and incompetence into hatred. It's completely irrational - I doubt they also have a hatred of lampposts or small children for the same reasons. This is why I reckon cycle awareness should be part of the driving test. It's not acceptable to blame other road users for the fact that you're not good enough to not hit them.
