• France and Spain have excellent cuisine, so ride to eat, don't eat to ride!

In France Monday to Friday, you should aim to be in a village or small town at 12.30 sharp. The local restaurant will give you "le menu" for around €12 - this is at least a starter and main, usually including wine and a dessert/coffee (sometimes both). There is usually the choice of two options for each course and the food varies from decent to excellent.

When you reach Spain, "el menu del dia" is similar, but it is served later at about 14.00 to 14.30 and it will cost less (€10) but usually not include dessert.

When touring, we use this as our main meal of the day. Breakfast is usually baguette + jam/honey. Dinner: pasta + tomatos, cous cous + random veg, salads, soup. Charcuterie and cheese also feature. Random sweets for little energy pick me ups during the day - no energy bars etc.
