So...I'm looking to build an around town, ocasional audax, longish distances, bad weather bike. Small task huh? And to top it all I want it to be good looking!
It seems that a cyclocross frame suits the bill perfectly. I would really like something mean looking without spending too much and this frame ticks all the boxes: http://www.hongfu-bikes.com/html_products/HF-FM089-269.html Check.
Next step is that I want it to be a disc brake bike. Check.
Gearing will be internal, this is where I'm torn. In a perfect world I would choose the Alfine 11 in a heartbeat BUT this bike will have drop bars and people trash talk the only option available (versa). God how I would like that j-tek release an 11 speed version of their shifters! So for now, it's an Alfine 8. Not a happy check.
Front hub I'm thinking about a Chris King ISO front, just because I always wanted a CK hub, they are sexy and also I want an ISO disc option because I'll use a BB7 disc (no centerlock avail.).
I'll get a Problem Solvers PF30 eccentric BB adapter to keep the chain tensioned. Check.
I'll build the wheel myself, with these: Black H+Son Archetype Rim + Black Sapim Laser Spokes + 32 or 35c Panaracer Pasela's.Check.
The crank I'm still undecided...there are some NOS Sram Force cranks floating on ebay for $140-180 they would complement the build nicely but I don't know if I'll end up with chainline issues, Alfine requires 42mm. Maybe I'll put a Black Sugino XD2, I don't know.
I'm still debating on the final parts list to see if I can spend less on some things and still have an awesome bike, I'll update this thread as I go along.
