You most assuredly did. The fact that 'too tight for it to withstand' is less than 'tight enough to work properly' is a design flaw. Next time use grip paste and a clamp on the post above the seat clamp, as that sorts out the post slipping down problem which usually leads people down the path of excessive seat clamp tightening. Or just lay off the pies, fatty.
