  • I do...

  • only the very shitty one that comes with dremel, so take this as a no

  • if you're in london I can still come round wih a dremel you know...

    just saying

I live in the Netherlands, but thanks for the offer.
I think I'll give filing the tube another go this evening. It only needs a quarter turn to get it tight enough, so it might be worth it.

Glue is not really a short-term solution, because I'll have to race this bike tomorrow.

  • ^^ and ^^^

I need to borrow one next week as ive chewed my seat collar bolts and need to drill it out and replace it

  • that stem

    with the cable hole

  • @Bas .. If you don't trust you're modification why not add a seat coller or hose clamp to the post itself on top of the frame clamp to stop it moving down. This is a common modification by Pro team mechanics for the pave classics ..

  • Rogan, keep the chainset.

Black is boring and mutes the frame too much.

  • I can stil move the saddle sideways a little but I seems not to go up or down anymore

You mean the post 'wobbles' or you can twist it? The seatpost shouldn't ever wobble (have any play in it) at all, even with an open/busted seatcollar. If it does, it's too small for the frame.

  • didnit know surly is making shims now

  • ^^ since i cant rep you enough, have posted that image on my tumblr

    Might be a good idea.

It twists, with quite some effort.

The tube bit turns when the pressure high. So the angle looks way more off now. Don't quite know what you're trying to tell me what to do, although I do love your drawings.

  • Ah wait, I think I get what you're saying. Going to give it a go after dinner.

  • I am going to save this serie of drawings to my laptop and reflect on their greatness one day.

  • I definitly did not tighten it too much

You most assuredly did. The fact that 'too tight for it to withstand' is less than 'tight enough to work properly' is a design flaw. Next time use grip paste and a clamp on the post above the seat clamp, as that sorts out the post slipping down problem which usually leads people down the path of excessive seat clamp tightening. Or just lay off the pies, fatty.

  • Or just lay off the pies, fatty.

    But I like pie

  • But I like pie

    OK,
    fewer sprinkles on the pie.

  • Come at me Nibberittet!

  • that stem

    with the cable hole

    beauuuutiful

this happened on one of my frames with fastback. just file all that shit off and put a regular clamp on :D

  • http://forceframes.co.uk/lugged-track-frame-may-2013/#jp-carousel-865 my mate stu is building this for me. First steps into frame building for him. I came up with the geo.

  • Silver brazing. 853.

  • How about that thin steel band packing strap stuff, cut a strip and wrap it around the outer part [see purple bit aded below] along with the modified clamp bolt.
Also on a slipping Carbon seatpost I used some of the wife's hairspray, it did the trick :)

    packing strap steel

  • Silver brazing. 853.

Unnecessary expense, 853 doesn't need low-melt brazing rods, it's quite happy with the much higher temperature involved in welding.
