  • Why wouldn't a hose clamp work in a pinch?

    Square peg, round hole.

  • ^ Aw figs. That rather complicates matters.

you really would go to an lbs to remove a seat collar? and pay money for it?

If were in a rush with a race the following day and needed a clamp, I'd just take the whole bike into the LBS and use their callipers and buy a clamp.

  • I dont know the profile of your seatube collar, but if the diameter is smooth, round and flat all across, it should be fine for a crit if you're in an urgency.

  • Square peg, round hole.

Though the hose clamp might be able to stretch?

I'm seriously considering giving this a go since I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. This seems like it might have a small chance of working..

  • The best bodge for tomorrow would be to pop down to a hardware shop and grab a bit of aluminium tubing that is a reasonable fit over the (m6?) bolt, a penny washer and a longer bolt. MS paint cominatcha in a second.

  • I've seen a Pista Concept with this failure and the guy got it welded back together, been like that for 3 years now I think with no problems. Just find an aluminium welder.

I think my uncle is pretty good at that stuff, so this might just be the long term solution. But the thing is, it is kind of hard to reach, since the bit that broke off is almost completely inside the part where the frame is cut to make the clamping possible.

  • ^^ I'm kind of surprised that I didn't think of that. Going to try that right now! Thanks

  • ^^^ Sounds good. Can't think what role the tube is playing, so I'm eagerly awaiting the MS Paint diagram.

it does stretch but it won adapt to a teardrop like shape of your seattube snug enough to offer a secure grip.
You can either glue it in and tighten whats left of the collar hoping for the best, or, what I would do, chop off the top of the collar, chop off the rear of it to make it as similiar to a round shape as possible, and then think of hose clamp or maybe a seatcollar even if you're accurate and a bit lucky to tighten the whole thing.
I am a bit of a mad sciencist type guy, but pretty sure it can work the way I described if done properly.

  • ^^ I'm not going for the radical solution yet. Seems like there are safer options out there.
like this ^, which I am going to try right now! Will post pic when done

  • yeah I like some dremel action every once in a while.

  • Undecided on wether to swap for black 75's/omniums or not.

Bars need cutting down, too wide, and brake cable/crosstop lever needed

bumping my shit photo cos I need more crank opinions

  • Don't mind the silver, works with the chromed stays.

  • just dirty the chain up a little and you're good imo

  • bars are a bit

  • Alfie Rep'd

  • Yeah black cranks would look better.

  • ^^ must spread rep

    Campag pista, dura ace.

  • Bars are like 680mm wide, wil be gettning them cut to about 20cm dildo risers.

    /troll

  • Aflie, you haz rep. I hope in life you are using your engineering skills for good and not for evil.

Definitely my black 75s. Omniums are too modern and alien looking for this build.

  • Colour way is a bit similar to my Omnium - (mainly) blue frame, black finishing kit and wheels, shiny cranks and drivetrain.

    I approve.
