• Fat gives you twice as many calories (energy!) per gramme as carbs, so if you're looking to minimise carrying loads of food, fat is the way to go. Obviously you're looking for good quality sources of fat like nuts, eggs, fish etc. Good quality sources of fat usually contain vitamins and minerals too, as well as those lovely essential fatty acids.

I would avoid having nothing but the high gluten/highly processed carbs you're thinking about surviving on, you will be a VERY unhappy camper after a few days. That's all fine and good for short bursts of energy but if you're looking to do this over 40 days (you mentioned 40 day supply of energy bars that's the only reason I assume that figure) you will end up a mess.

Also for protein, how do you feel about eggs? Buy a pack, boil em all. Add to salads, sandwiches or whatever you feel like throughout the day. Great source of protein, vitamins and good fats. Some people hate em though. Not me. EGGS FOR ALL.
