I've not done it fixed before but will be next month. I'm new to this fixed lark so will be twiddling along with 42:16 so similar GI to what you have.

UTFS - loads of LDN to BRTN threads, lots of chat about gearing.
But basically 68' - 76' is fine

Have done it on 48x18 (fine) and 48x15 (stupid)

I did it 46x20 on the Sustrans track. There and back.

Did it fixed on 48x17 - wont say its a piece of piss but its very doable (6 hours) with no training and a stonking hangover

What route, flat or hilly?

Whichever one the BHF night ride used - there was some steep descents and pretty disgusting climbs (the 3 back to back at the end). The descents were fun at 2am with no lights and limited fixie-skidder 'skills'.

Depends on route but 48 x 18 should be fine the hilly way.

50-14 is the officially approved LFGSS gear for this ride.

i'd have a couple up front maybe a 39 and say a 52
and about 8 or 9 out the back say 12 - 21
that should see you right
ditchling will fear you rather than vice versa -

I went up it on Sunday with gears. It didn't fear me in the slightest...
Im thinking bout doing london to brighton at some point. Not to sure about fixed but I was wondering what gearing is most suitable for a leisurely pace. Im currently riding fixed 48 18 what you folks think?
