No training for me tonight as I have to work 13 hrs to cover sickness. The joys of management.

Great session last night, thanks all!
How much experience is required to join the "more experienced" group? I think I could hold my own on a power/speed basis, and don't think I'm doing anything unsafe, but I've only done two of these sessions so far, and still have a lot to learn tactically...

I was going to come along for my first Monday night race training but I've just seen its madison training (I've been doing intermediates on Sat since start of the season) http://www.hernehillvelodrome.com/sessions_and_training/session_schedule/madison.html
I guess this means I cant do the normal race training, and have to do madison practise?
I am dont like the idea of the slingshot change over thingAnyone have an idea?
I think I will turn up and ask anyway unless people know otherwise -

The race training is split (by ability) into two groups, and I get the impression that only the more advanced group will be doing the madison training; in any case, you can always skip an exercise you don't feel happy with.
I don't think I'm ready for madisons yet (ignoring the fact I have no friends), but I'm still planning to come tonight...

Hopefully that is the case, I shall very much be in the non advance group.
Looking forward to itThanks!

Oops!

• #1258
were you involved?
-
• #1259
Yeah, I was the guy in Kingston Wheelers kit who rode over the top of the VCL bike (thankfully missing the rider!) Hopefully no-one sustained any serious injuries; good to see everyone up and walking!
-
• #1260
ouch. heal up quick! no broken bones, just scratches and bruises. that kid hit the barrier pretty hard, but in 10 minutes he was up on his legs laughing about it.

This looked scary from where I was inside track... Must have been even scarier for the riders involved or others near. Good there was no injuries! Some of the VCL kids were saying to the coach "3 crashes in 2 days!!"
Madison was good yesterday, was my first time at this, really enjoyed it!

Speedy recovery to the guys in the crash! Glad to see everyone got up and was alright after.
I enjoy my first race training, it was really interesting doing the devil, I learnt a lot of positioning and tactics, also how terrifying it is when everyone is battling for places.

• #1263
That Devil got a bit hairy at times! Little kid on the white planet x was bouncing around all over, tried to let him in a couple of times but he stayed put wobbling in between the bottom two lines of riders.

That whole session felt pretty sketchy if you ask me. Way more dangerous moves than usual.
Hopefully everyone's ok, and it will be back to safer riding next week. -

Bit nervous about tonight but looking forward to it.

Yeah - madison training is first Monday of the month. Looked very impressive last week.
I'm out unfortunately - won't be able to get out of work in time :-(

Does anyone know what drill they'll be doing tonight?
-
• #1271

Nice to meet / chat with forum people too.

That was a really good session. Despite being my least favourite race, i liked that we did scratch twice in a row, makes sense to help you try different tactics. Also think i pushed myself a bit harder than usual, and attempting more working at the front.
Good to meet you dan, see you next time.
