Thank you for the input !!!
I do have a pair of Shimano PD A530 on my other bike (clipless/ platform combo).
I will switch them to the Marciato to see how I get along.

Looks gorgeous! How does it ride?
-

Cheers Sam !
The bike rides lovely. The total build is 8,5kg which is pretty light compared to my other bikes hence it feels really lively!
As I said this is my first FG so I am still getting used to the feeling (especially stoping :) ) !!
Not having to fiddle with gears is perfect...!

Solid conversion, good job!

Cheers man! Have not used it for two days and I am getting anxious for my next ride!

I have found these straps, which I am considering to fit on my existing pedals (either yellow/black or black/black)
I do appreciate that these straps are more suitable for BMX pedals.
Would they still do a fine job with my pedals ?? -
• #62
I'm not sure about straps like that, from what I've read they won't work on your kind of pedal, haven't seen anyone try though. These guys make a similar strap that works on any pedal with reflector mount holes, only difference is that these straps are diagonal:

How is the Concor saddle by the way? I'm considering one myself although I've not tried a suede saddle before - I ride in jeans a lot, do you reckon the suede will hold up or will it get marked and messed up? Does the suede make you stick to the saddle much? And if so, is it annoying?

Restrap horizontal also work and looks a whole better/are more secure.

Good to know, will be considering those for my build then.

I want to try a change with the cockpit of this bike. Want to make the riding position less agressive.
I was thinking either a flat bars or risers.
I may also go for a different stem (length/ angle).Any ideas on something that will not look too much out of place??
-
• #66
Some nice wide risers with a little bit of sweep would be cool.
-
• #67
Cheers Indra !
Would you change the stem? There is also the option of raising the stem up a bit !
-
• #68
I'd not change it before trying risers, wide ones with decent rise will give a far more upright position.

Have you ever tried bar tape on risers?? Will it look silly??
Ideally I would like to keep the "world champion" colour scheme going so I am thinking of getting the same bar tape again!
I could add some gel pads before applying the tape to make the grip thicker and more comfortable.
-

Raise the stem to the "minimum insertion mark" and try that. If that's no good, get a shorter stem.
Different angle quill stems aren't common: raising or lowering the stem achieves the same thing.
You could also look at more modern bars with a shallower drop.
If bar thickness, rather than vibration, is an issue, then slip an old inner tube on before taping (talc will help).

Yes I've taped risers but only stupidly narrow ones and with cloth tape, I found it comfy enough.
You shouldn't have a problem taping yours and I reckon it'll look fine, otherwise you would always paint the bars a little bit and get some clear grips.

Cheers guys. Will play around with it and share my results.
Btw Indra I think I found you/ followed you on Strava.
I also found Apollo and Dancing James! -

Just followed back.
DO let us know how you get on with different bars.

Will do cheers!

where is the LIKE button?? Nice bike man!
Foot retention really helps with control, especially on a fixed bike with no back brake as to have a solid substitute for a brake you need to be able to skid seated, very hard with no foot retention.
You really have 3 options for foot retention
clips and straps

Freestyle straps

Or clipless road or mountain pedals and shoes.

If you want to get properly into riding I'd recommend clipless.
If you want to ride around casually and comfortably I'd say freestyle straps would be your best bet.
If you want your bike to look period correct then clips and straps are the way.
