  • More on theft of my My Dolan Seta track bike: it was stolen at about 3:35 - 3:40 pm on 13th (thursday) from inside the grounds of Gayhurst school on Gayhurst Road, Hackney, London, E8 3EN when I went to collect my sons who go there. The bike was left for a few seconds well inside the school grounds, it was in fact next to the door of the reception and is under close CCTV. I've seen the recorded footage of the sub-human scum who had followed me into the school grounds and picks the bike up right in front of the camera seconds before I come out with my son. It is likely that he lives nearby and is quite identifiable. He is tall, I'd say well over 6 feet, scrawney build and with a noticeably slouching posture, he is white, probably in in his early twenties short brown straight hair. he was wearing a grey jacket over a white shirt with a collar. If anyone spots, him grab the nearest blunt instrument and bludgen this evolutionary mistake.

The bike is only a few months old and in perfect condition. I bought it direct from Dolan bikes online and have a complete list of all the parts and their model numbers and spec. A hole had been pre-drilled through the front fork on which I had mounted black Shimano 105 front calliper brake fitted to a Cane Creek brake lever. The Sugino Logo is missing from the crankset as it had rubbed off when I was cleaning the bike with alcohol so this should be easy to identify. There is a smallish scratch on the crossbar and I replaced one of the tyres so they are not matching as purchased. Apart from this it looks just like the image here

which is from the Dolan website, same Alpina headset, Navigator Street wheels etc. If anyone sees one being sold anywhere please let me know. There aren't that many around. Any info that leads me to getting it back will be generously rewarded. If it was legal I would also offer a reward for anything that leads to any physical harm being done to the overgrown pondlife i've described above.

Does anyone know this guy in person? I'm 99% sure his bike is up for sale in local classifields. I've wrote him a PM but it seems he's not an active member.

  • PM velocio to see if he has the guys details.

  • Thanks, didn't occur to me, have some rep.

  • ^ Wirecutters? What kind of lock would they cut?

  • You can easily cut through any braided-cable, rubber-housed lock with a pair of common snips(but Park Tool cable-cutters work best).

    Bend, snip, repeat.

  • Think Wanda is simply making the point that he had a crap lock.

  • too late, now we all received the neccessary training..

  • So... Yesterday I was subject to a hit and run and they also stole my bike whilst I was out cold... CUNTS! Keep an eye out and inform me if you have any info... Cheers

  • Wtf? Shit! That's horrible!

  • Cuntish!

  • Shiiiit.

  • Think Wanda is simply making the point that he had a crap lock.

Well I didn't want to write blatantly hence the detour :-). Thanks for the info Ma3k.

  • Wtf Jamie. That is completely fucked up.

  • I was drunk so this is a bit vague. Walking home from the Princess Victoria on Uxbridge Road last night bloke tried to sell me what looked to be a very nice trick bike for 40 quid outside the John Snow shop.

I don't know much about bikes like this but it looked nice. Red frame white fork and ridiculous fat headset and wide bars. Kept telling me it was legit and did I want it because he needed to buy electricity! Man and bike didn't fit together.

I'd have taken it off him if I had the cash on me because I'm convinced he'd nicked it.

  • wow.
hope you're OK, that you get your bike back and that serious misery befall the lowlife(s) that stole an unconscious, potentially seriously injured man's bike.

It's generally not a good idea to buy stolen goods, even with the honourable intention of returning them to the owner. There have been some cases in which people have done this, sometimes at the owner's request, and the bikes have been returned to the owners, but at the end of the day the thief will have got what they wanted, the owner or the buyer will be out of pocket, and often it proves impossible to trace the owner. The police will also potentially not be able to catch the thief in possession of the stolen bike. Obviously, you can't always take a stand on principle, and in some cases the owner will be desperate enough to pay money to get their bike back, but generally you should avoid the temptation. Report such incidents to the Cycle Task Force instead (contact details here) so that they can carry on building up a picture, e.g. they might get three reports of this bloke trying to sell to people in that spot and try to catch him in the act.

I see your point. More needs to be done to solve the root of the problem but if my bike was stolen and somebody in my situation last night, had their suspicions, bought the bike, posted on here and it somehow made it back to me, i'd be happy to pay the £40 to get it back.

I appreciate the good intention but most stolen bikes don't make it home

  • True, but sometimes there's just not a lot you can do either way.

  • Also true.

Anyway maybe that 40 yr old drunk ne'er do well really was the owner of the bike and really did need money for some electricity. In which cas I really wish I had £40 on me for what was a lovely bike!

  • Seen Today (SUNDAY) on brick lane...

70's bianchi..quite nice...celeste green...columbus ...not gas pipe...mixture of parts tho stronglight cranks, NR front brake, campag hubs on mavic rims...
Also...Colnago...90's loud paint job...mirage 8 speed gruppo...was told it was bought in west london this morning for £50....

We really need to go down there and buy these bikes ...

the bianchi went for £50...I told the woman that bought it it was probs stolen and she just shrugged her shoulders...english wasn't her mother tongue...

we need to try to buy them or others that turn up...it's not really going to encourage them they are fucking incorrigible as it is.....at least if the forum has them there is a chance we can reunite them with the owners, it's hardly handling stolen goods if we are trying to give them back to the rightful keepers?

I felt sick not being able to get them and try to return them...

and even more pissed of the the Cycle F*cking task force...aren't there every fucking week doing something...

WTF???? are they for...It drives me wild ...what the fuck do they do on sunday mornings? why are they not on brick lane as a matter of course...

We managed to get my mates bike back 3-4 weeks ago....it was stolen on outside the premises rehearsal on saturday night...within 8 hours it was stripped and about to be painted black...we got to them before the painting started...

We should complain on mass it's totally fuking ridiculous...the amount of obviously stolen shit there this morning was ludicrous.

Oliver..regardless of what the thief wants...they will get it...it's us that are getting mugged off in this situation...I would have happily shelled out today on the bianchi...

If it wasn't pinched...we can offer them to people that have had them pinched...at least something proactive.,..the police are seeming to be bloody useless...

why wouldn't they be down there all the time knowing it's going on..it's as tho they have an interest in not getting involved...they are happy enough to chase people up and down the street handing out tickets for 60 quid in angel for RLJ...tho not for catching bike thief scum red handed?

  • The problem with direct action is I have heard that some of the traders on brick lane etc are... shall we say not unamenable to the use of fisticuffs? Be careful if you're.. ahem.. suggesting their wares may not be quite pukka.

Still I do find it astounding the police don't send at least one bobby just to walk around there...

What's one bobby going to do... they need an extended undercover operation where they not only bust the people selling but get at the entire network of thieves and buyers and choppers. Busting the odd BL seller isn't going to make a dent in the organised crime that is bicycle theft these days.
