Thinking about pulling the trigger on a brand new Bob Jackson Olympus Road as they are selling the frameset as otp at the moment...
631 will come in at £480 which is pretty reasonable i think........ -

DO IT instead of steel fork go for Columbus minimal innit

Price look good, that remind me to find out about the Genesis 853/953 frame.

exactly. the guy was selling it here recently but I want steel forks with mine.
thinking about paying the extra £180 for 853 front end and 725 rear triangle although im sure I wont notice the difference so perhaps I should just stick with 631....

I like my Bob but I'm not sure a 631 road frame from them would be my first choice. That 853 one looks like a nice bike, but mostly because it's 853 and has a good crabon fork.

Like the one that Alby has?

I think you'll definitely notice the difference the 725 rear end brings. The difference between 725 and 853 main triangles, maybe less so, but for £60 over the 725 upgrade I'd say it's worth it on a road frame.
My 631 Bob = a bit lumpy and flexy
My 853 + 725 Feather = buttery smooth and stiff -

Im currently riding a 531c ribble with modern parts and its pretty heavy but ive never found it a hindrance when riding with people on fancy expensive road bikes
so anything better would be an improvement. also I want my next bike to have vertical dropouts as horizontal ones are a lil bitch sometimes -

It won't really slow you down, for sure. I think the only time the flex is an issue is descending, but if it gets hairy you can just knock the pace off a bit and take it easy, and I think you'd have to be pushing pretty hard to get to that point. I just find the ride of the 631 Vig a bit agricultural compared to 'better' steel frames I've ridden. Perfectly usable and not uncomfortable or anything, just less polished.

Don't forget that the Bob Jackson road frame have oversized 631 instead which should make a noticable difference.
Like the one that Alby has?
Indeed, rumour are that they're likely to released it in 853 for mass production if 953 isn't possible, I'd love to have that frameset.

My Vig is oversized 631, I think they build all their frames from a 56ish size up with oversized tubing by default.
The 725 stays are a big upgrade over 631. They're more heavily ovalized and quite a bit lighter. I think they would improve its road manners quite a bit.

I assumed the Genesis Equilibrium frameset is not the right kind of road frame for you Xander? (725 and cheaper than Bob Jackson without the fancy lugs).
-
• #466
I did consider it and even thought about the ti one. I originally wanted one of the 953 genesis madison bikes but it came out too pricey for me.
Looks like ill just have to save a bit of extra cash and go for a 853/725 bob jackson in 56cm.
time to think about colours...

Were there's a price tag for the 953? can't see any colour option...

Really, really nice in that colour. And the lug lining works well there - I'm not usually a fan of it, but that's spot on. Is there another post with spec details, rims in particular?
My only regrets with my Vigorelli are 1) not getting better track ends and now, 2) not getting it in that colour :)
got a 53cm blue vigorelli i might put up for sale soon, drop me a pm if your interested
