I grumbled about Strava segments on links2schools routes when I worked for the mighty charity, think I was politely ignored back then.
I often ride from Temple Meads to Avonmouth for work, and sometimes go through Ashton Court and also use the various cycle paths. Basically if you can't go at speed they are useless and much, much slower than using the road. The solution has to be dedicated cycle paths without peds at all. One of the cycle paths goes past a primary school and another is used by the locals to walk their kids to another primary school, so if I use them I run the risk of coming across a mother hen and her entire brood spread across the the cycle path (these days often all wearing high-vis jackets) and of course dog walkers with dogs either on lead or off.
Basically they are totally useless for a decent cyclist so you are forced back onto the road. Cyclists and peds don't play well, and the solution is too expensive for the councils to contemplate. Another dead end.
