There no gaps large enough for a 100mm sphere to pass through and the strings can withstand a force of 0.36 kN/m (I've fallen against them) so at a cursory glance, yes, they comply.
So it doesn't work like an egg slicer? :D

Maybe if you threw a soft pear at it full force. The client wasn't into me finding out though.

For your own legal protection, it would have been best to have sought a certificate from a building control body.
One particular issue is whether or not a child can get trapped in any way at all.
e.g He can sue you if his kid gets stuck.
I honestly don't think building Control would pass that.
You could always prove me wrong by getting a certificate. -

Are there any carpenters subscribed to this thread interested in helping Greenpeace set up there site at Glastonbury this year?
The details are
"We are planning on building a timber frame cafe, in the style of walter segal.
I'd love to get your expert advice on this. Would you be interested in coming to lead the build on site?! You'd get a free ticket to the festival and 3 delicious hot meals a day the whole time you're there, as well as transport costs covered...
The dates are:
Build/Set-up
Event
De-Rig/Offsite
Glastonbury
7th-25th June
26th-30th June
1st – 9th JulyThe earlier you can make it the better, but I understand it's hard to get time out of your normal life. The deal is, if you work for more than 7 days, you get paid £50 per day for every extra day worked. Great pay eh?! You wouldn't be expected to work during the event."
If you are interested in being involved PM me and I will pass on your details.

The government wants to re-classify the craft industry as non-creative..... Mayhaps will carve a quotation from Seneca on a piece of riven Welsh slate and chuck it through D C's window.

Lovely work Sam, that's some tough wood to work with.
I've got a piece of lignum vitae somewhere, but like the rest of my wood collection, it's currently waiting on some inspiration :-/

I don't know. The client is happy though and as it's not a new-build I don't think the regs apply in the same way. Either way it's not a public building and solid ballusters can be re-fitted if he decides to sell.
