    Usually it has the opposite affect.

    I'd be interested to see what the definitive best tactic is for buying cheapest/selling for highest.

    I've seen stuff titled 'durace, duraace, etc' go for big prices, often well over the odds because people think they've got a bargain. A couple of years ago I got a 'durace' wheelset for £40, but that's the last one of those bargains I've seen.
    It's an advanced selling tactic, but I reckon there's some evidence for it working (if done intentionally).

    Buying wise, I always snipe, but it's rare that I win stuff at the price I wanted. I only use eBay for bargains so will find something badly listed, put in what I consider a bargain price as a snipe and see what happens. Everyone uses those sites now, so there's not really any advantage, it's just paying what you are willing to without being tempted to try and 'win' something.
    I know some people just put in a max price from the offset and if people outbid them then so be it.
