  • and.. merge.

  • Weight weenie caring about stiffness? Fail.

I didn't buy them for their weight, I bought them for stiffness, flexibility of spiders, powermeter compatibility and so forth.

That they are also very light is a bonus- and an indication of good design and engineering, which a lot of people seem to miss, possibly because they enjoy being shouty and dismissive.

  • "stiffness, flexibility of spiders" - well, which is it?

  • Don't worry about these ladyboys and their lightweight cranks, precious.

  • My cranks are stiffer than those, I believe.

  • Prove it.

  • You prove it.

  • I don't have to. I'm not the one claiming my cranks are stiffer.

Both, you can swap between 130/135/110 bcd, and swap an SRM powermeter in also.

  • I'm sure they are stiff.

  • Anyway, I don't care- they work, I like them.

  • That's cool. I'd buy them because I think they look nice.

If you have any further psuedo science purchase justifications you want shot down, you know where I'm at. :)

  • Issue with that is I'm pretty sure they are stiffer- the old models were stiffer than DA 7800 in tests, I just cannot find any tests with both the SISL and the 7900 with a quick Google.

They are certainly stiff enough for me, based on yesterdays ride out, which is all that really matters.

  • Pic nicked from inter-webs.

    I have 165mm, compact ones (520g)
    I have ceramic bearings (100g)
    and the aero chainrings (150g)

So heavy. But I loves them.

  • Hope this is the right place for this...

Have a few crank options/thoughts for my new carbon track build. Would love views and/experiences:

    • Rotor 3D crank set and chainring
    • Omnium with Rotor chainring (Indra's) or Sugino Zen chainring
    • Sugino Messenger with Zen chainring

    Let me know your thoughts!

  • Moved to existing thread in Bikes and Bits. Have a look in here. You have a massive difference in crank prices. What are you trying to achieve?

Little bit of lightness given that it is for a full carbon track frame & forks, stealthy black looks and proper reliability & stiffness.

  • Is this a track bike or HHSB? Either way, count out Messengers for a full carbon track frame.

  • Kinda planning to use for both but thanks for assisting re: messengers!

  • Rotor 3D if you can afford them, although I recently bought Omniums and I couldn't be happier (unless I'd bought rotors)

  • I reckon the On-One external bearing track cranks would look pretty good with a matte black powder coat.

  • Rotors are the new "cool" crank.

  • No, they were cool when Sastre won the Tour.

    Trendsetters use these..
